Oh! Although 'Dispelling Errors' and 'Tathagata Vajra,' as well as the sadhana of Lavapa, speak of eight wells, the 'Mandala Ritual Vajramala' also speaks of ten wells. Lavapa and others also say to summon the obstructing forces of the ten directions, so wells for introducing the obstructing forces of above and below are also necessary. Therefore, a goddess who can summon the obstructing forces of above and below is also needed. In the commentary of the great Jo-bo (Atisha), it says that between the vajra fence and the fire fence, in the directions and intermediate directions, there are eight gate guardians, and above, one should visualize the crow-faced mother, and below, the dog-faced mother. This is said to be good, so this method should also be known during auspicious times. 'Distinguishing the Particulars' says that protecting the obstructing forces of above and below is also done only by them, although it is generally said that way, but (in reality) it is done by the two, the crow-faced mother and the dog-faced mother. Even so, considering that goddesses other than the eight gate guardians are not needed, it is said that way. Some Tibetan lamas say from the root tantra: 'In an instant, eight bodies transform, for the purpose of protecting the mandala, all evils are especially overcome, even obtaining just this one will cause death, without needing to examine, one will die.' By reciting the mantra once, eight goddesses are emanated. In order for one crow-faced mother to guard the east and above, and one dog-faced mother to guard the west and below, making two each of the crow-faced mother and the dog-faced mother, thereby making ten goddesses, preventing this is not reasonable. Because each of those two goddesses pacifying the obstructing forces of two directions is not the meaning of that text, it cannot be used as evidence. Furthermore, the appearance of two each of the crow-faced mother and the dog-faced mother, and the statement of eight goddesses, these two are differentiation and aggregation, so they are not contradictory. If reciting the mantra of the four-faced deity once can generate eight goddesses, then one generates four gate mothers from each of one's own four mantras, and four intermediate mothers are generated from the mixing of the light rays of the mantras, which contradicts (the previous statement). In the 'Lexicon,' it says that the wrathful ones strike with the phurba (ritual dagger), and here it says that the crow-faced mother and others strike with the phurba, this is not contradictory, because in Atisha's commentary, it is also said in the seventeenth chapter: 'Wrathful ones such as the victorious one, at the gates and boundaries of the edges, with various methods of taming, sentient beings.'

He endeavored for the meaning. Therefore, in order to transform the various methods of subduing into instructions for female subduers, as the meaning explanation of the Sarvasamgraha Tantra says. Therefore, in the root tantra, at the end of the collected mantra of the four-faced deity, it says, "Perfectly endowed with the four wrathful ones, in an instant, it transforms into eight bodies." As mentioned before, this meaning should be understood. Secondly, starting from the east, circumambulating to the left, and from the direction of fire, circumambulating to the right, and focusing on above and below, in the manner of instructing the wrathful goddesses, each mantra of staking with the phurba, such as Om Ghagha, is recited first, and then the phurba is inserted into the crown of the heads of all obstacles. As it says in the Abhidharmakosha, "With the vajra phurba, pierce and suppress the heads of all obstacles, this is the way of arising and reversing." Then, the sequence of striking is also explained as before, and in the same sequence, each mantra of striking, such as Om Vajra Mungara, is recited first, and then struck with the vajra hammer in the right hand, so that it penetrates from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet. This translation is excellent. During these times, to act with the pride of oneself being Hum (藏文,梵文天城体:हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) is the method of the Abhidharmakosha. To act with the pride of the two-armed Heruka is the view of the Samvarodaya and the Ghantapa. The three commentaries on this and the method of the Bhrantisamtrana are also in accordance with this. Regarding the meaning of the phurba mantra, Om (藏文,梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) is the same as before. Ghagha is Ghataghata, which means killer. Ghataya, the two, are commanding "Cut down!" Who? Sarva is all, and Dusta is the unruly. Phat (藏文,梵文天城体:फट्,梵文罗马拟音:phaṭ,汉语字面意思:帕特) is the seed syllable that makes the meaning clear. Kilaya, the two, are to obtain with the phurba and make it immovable. Sarva Papam is all those with sinful thoughts. Phat (藏文,梵文天城体:फट्,梵文罗马拟音:phaṭ,汉语字面意思:帕特) is scattered. The three Hums (藏文,梵文天城体:हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) are urging its very nature. Vajra Kilaya is calling upon the vajra phurba. Vajra Dhara Ajnapaya is to listen to the command of Vajradhara, that is, to bless oneself as Vajradhara and then give instructions. Kaya Vaka Citta is the three of body, speech, and mind, which is done to the obstacles. Vajra Kilaya is the same as before. Hum Phat (藏文,梵文天城体:हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) (藏文,梵文天城体:फट्,梵文罗马拟音:phaṭ,汉语字面意思:帕特) is again.
