Like the clear light of wakefulness, the clear light of sleep, and the clear light of dying of a baby, all three of these practices should be practiced as they are, just as the four appearances of the base-level death sequence arise. In order to understand this, these three are given the name of death. The illusion of wakefulness as the sambhogakaya, the illusion of dream as the sambhogakaya, and the illusion of bardo as the sambhogakaya, all three of these practices should be practiced as they are, just as the base-level bardo. In order to understand this, these three are given the name of bardo. The nirmanakaya of wakefulness, the nirmanakaya immediately after waking from a dream, and the nirmanakaya entering the bardo of existence, all three of these practices should be practiced as they are, just as taking birth. In order to understand this, these three are given the name of birth, and thus it is explained. Regarding the meaning of "mixing," the way to mix the three clear light dharmakayas is: In the waking state, with the power of clear light that can operate all emptiness, focus the mind on the central channel of the heart before falling asleep, thereby realizing the clear light of all emptiness. Then, focus on it single-pointedly as in the waking state. At the time of death, focus the mind on the central channel of the heart, thereby realizing the clear light of all emptiness, then focus on it single-pointedly as in the waking state. Similarly, the way to mix the three sambhogakayas and the way to mix the three nirmanakayas should also be understood in this way. Relying on the two chakras of the heart and throat, having the unperverted instructions for practicing the clear light of sleep and the illusory body of dream is truly a praiseworthy thing. If, in the waking state, one is able to gather the winds into the central channel, and before falling asleep, focus the mind on the central channel of the heart, thereby generating and maintaining the clear light of all emptiness, then through the force of this, gathering the winds into the central channel in the waking state will become more excellent and stable. This also makes the clear light of sleep more stable, therefore, whether or not one is able to practice the clear light of sleep has a very significant impact on the progress of the path. If one does not attain the supreme in this life and faces death, then the way to realize the clear light of death will be different from others. Similarly, at the culmination of the clear light of sleep, if one knows how to arise as a special illusory body of dream, and is accustomed to arising in that way, then the illusory body of wakefulness will become powerful. This will also make the illusory body of dream more excellent.

Ah! If one dies without attaining supreme accomplishment in this life, one will grasp the clear light through the power of the winds. Because one is accustomed to the illusory body of dreams, it will be like grasping the illusory body of the bardo, and this will not happen at any other time. Secondly, regarding the practice methods of the various paths, one must know the meaning of the main deity of the tantra, that is, the practice methods of the illusory body and clear light at the time of waking up and returning to sleep, as previously explained. Other than that, the practice methods that appear in the instruction manuals of the various lamas are divided into two: the practice of illusion and the practice of clear light. The first has three aspects, which is the practice of appearance as illusion: For the basis of clinging to "I," the individual, through contemplating whether the aggregates and nature are one or different, one generates a firm conviction that there is not the slightest self-nature established in the individual. One trains extensively in emptiness. Then, one allows the appearances that cannot deny the nominal existence of the individual to appear as objects of consciousness, and one focuses on the aspects of dependent origination that establish them as accumulators and experiencers of results. One gains certainty in the reason why dependent origination is reasonable without self-nature. When these two seem contradictory, one thinks about the non-contradictory nature by taking images as examples. For example, the image of a face, although it is empty in the place where the eyes, nose, etc. appear, it arises dependent on the face and the mirror, and it also disappears when some of those conditions disappear. These two undeniably exist on the same basis. Similarly, for the individual, even if there is not the slightest self-nature, it is not contradictory to be an accumulator of karma and an experiencer of results, and to arise dependent on past karma and afflictions. One trains in this way. When one has a firm conviction about this, one studies the threefold knowable, which is to contemplate everything that appears in the object of consciousness as the body of the deity, and like the body of the deity, to contemplate the illusion that appears to be established, and that the illusion is also the nature of great bliss. Secondly, there are four aspects to the practice of dream illusion, the first of which is grasping the dream. Grasping the dream by the power of the winds is done by someone who, when awake, can draw in the four emptinesses from the winds entering and dissolving into the dūti. The way to do this is to first grasp the clear light of sleep, and then recognize the four emptinesses of the clear light of sleep.
