Now, first, to explain the state of mind. In the Two Examinations Tantra, it says: "The essence is formless, it is the seer. There is no sound, nor is there a hearer. There is no smell, nor is there a smeller. There is no taste, nor is there a taster. There is no touch, nor is there a toucher. There is no mind, nor is there anything arising from mind." It also says: "The senses and the objects themselves, and the consciousness of the senses, are explained as the eighteen elements for the sake of understanding by the yoginis. The nature is unborn from the beginning, neither false nor true, just as it is. All are like the moon in water, the yoginis should know this as desired." Thus it is said. Among these, the five objects of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, and the five from the seer to the toucher, the senses from the eye to the body, show the senses. From the perspective of the aggregates, it is the aggregate of form; from the perspective of the sources (སྐྱེ་མཆེད།), it shows that the ten material sources are without inherent existence. Mind refers to the aggregate of consciousness and the source of mind; that which arises from mind refers to the three aggregates of feeling, perception, and formation. From this, it can be inferred that the source of phenomena, which is the object of mind, is also without inherent existence. Furthermore, the words such as seer also indicate the person who sees form, the person who hears sound, and the self, etc. In short, it shows the two kinds of selflessness: the selflessness of the person and the selflessness of phenomena. The way of being without inherent existence is shown by "essence is without," that is, persons and phenomena such as form do not have a nature that is established by inherent existence. These explanations are the view of the commentary by the great accomplished one, Ocean Born (མཚོ་སྐྱེས།). This is the meaning of "without inherent existence" and "without self-nature" that often appear in the scriptures. Like this, the reason why there is no establishment by nature or essence, and that nature is unborn, is not to newly establish an emptiness that did not exist before with logic and reasoning, but rather it has always been like this from the beginning, and recognizing that it has always been like this is what "from the beginning" expresses. Lama Marpa said: "I went to the banks of the Ganges River in the east, and through the kindness of the great Lord Maitri, I realized that the ground, the nature of reality, is unborn. I settled my mind in emptiness, and saw the primordial face free from elaboration. I directly perceived the three bodies of the Buddha. I, this person!"

From that point on, stop the elaborate speculations. It is said that the view of Mahamudra was mainly obtained from Maitripa. In the Ten Realities composed by that teacher, it says: "If you want to know the reality, it is neither with characteristics nor without characteristics." It means that if you want to understand the true nature of reality, you should not adopt the ways of having characteristics or not having characteristics to understand reality. In the commentary written by Pandit Sahajavajra, a direct disciple of Maitripa, it says: The Sautrantika school of the Hearers with characteristics, and the Vaibhashika school without characteristics, and the two truths of the Mind-Only school, and the Madhyamikas who practice Yoga, who nominally think of having characteristics and not having characteristics, should not be adopted. It also says: Therefore, the views of the Madhyamikas, such as the noble Nagarjuna, the noble Aryadeva, and Chandrakirti, are what those who want to understand the nature of dependent origination, the reality, should follow. This shows that the views of these three are acceptable. Nagarjuna and Aryadeva are orthodox Madhyamikas, so other Madhyamikas also follow these two. However, Maitripa said that there are many differences in their understanding of the doctrine, and he himself follows the venerable Chandrakirti. In addition, the Ten Realities also says: "The Madhyamika that is not adorned by the words of the guru is only mediocre." It means that the Madhyamika of other teachers who are not adorned with the oral instructions of Chandrakirti is only mediocre. Therefore, to thoroughly understand the meaning of reality, one must follow Chandrakirti. The meaning of "neither true nor false" and so on, is as stated in the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning: "All things depend on origination, like the moon in water, neither true nor false, the wise do not steal it." It should be understood as such. That is to say, wise people, for the nature of the self of person and the self of phenomena, arise depending on their respective causes and conditions, and are dependently imputed, so they are not real. Because these things do not have any self-nature established by their own nature, if they have an independent self-nature,
