It is not like that. Since it is said how to merge from the perfection stage, then saying here to merge desire with freedom is inappropriate. One aspect of the intermediate state, when entering the womb to be born, when the intermediate state body takes form, considering the teaching that any mind of desire and hatred will manifest, there is nothing other than saying that the illusory body merges with hatred. If so, then the extremely important illusory body of waking time, and if the merging of the illusory body of dreams is abandoned, then the real merging of the illusory body will be lost, and, equally important, after the clear light of death, the merging of practicing the illusory body as in the intermediate state will also be lost, and, at the time of taking birth in the womb, it is also said that even with the mind of desire, there will be connection, therefore, it must also be said that the illusory body merges with desire. Those classifications are not good. Also, some say that in the intermediate state of birth and death, desire is heavier, so it merges with desire. In the intermediate state of dreams, it merges with ignorance. In the intermediate state of existence, hatred is heavier, so it merges with hatred. Saying this is also unreasonable, as the previous one can understand. In particular, if one is between sleep and dreams, ignorance has the nature of the Dharmakaya. Since it has been acknowledged that the teachings of holding the clear light of sleep before dreams arise are reliable, then wanting to merge ignorance and clear light at the time of dreams is contradictory. Also, in a book said to be written by Marpa, there is merging desire with the uncontaminated, merging hatred with the illusory body, merging ignorance with clear light, but there is no trust in the first two. Also, some lamas say that in the intermediate state of birth, death, and intermediate state, there is one cycle of merging the practice of the two stages. After mastering that, in the intermediate state of dreams, merging ignorance and clear light, there are two cycles of merging the practice of the two stages. After mastering that, in the intermediate state of existence, merging hatred and dharmata, there are three cycles of merging the practice of the two stages. Saying this, I have not seen any essence. Here, it seems that fifteen classifications of the intermediate state, such as the three bodies of the three intermediate states, are to be made, but because they are very easy to understand, they have not been written. Second, there are two aspects to the order of practice: the difference of the individuals who hold the intermediate state, and what they do.

How to grasp it. First, there are three types of people who grasp the bardo. The best is as stated in the 'Oral Instructions,' 'Compendium of Practices,' and 'Clear Lamp,' at the moment of death, for the sake of the coming bardo, the illusory enjoyment body is accomplished, and one attains Buddhahood relying on that basis. Regarding this, previous Tibetan scholars created the term 'lazy ones attain Buddhahood in the bardo.' Even if one is not lazy, there are those who do not have complete resources for practicing Dharma in this life and attain Buddhahood in the bardo, so this name is just a one-sided statement. Regarding this, one might wonder how much realization of the path is needed in this life? One needs to exhaust the realization of the first stage, and then rely on entering, abiding, and dissolving in the life force (藏文:སྲོག་དྷཱུ་ཏཱིར,梵文天城体:prāṇa-dhūtīr,梵文罗马拟音:prāṇa-dhūtīr,life force), thereby gradually generating the four joys and the wisdom of the four emptinesses, and one needs to be close to actually accomplishing the illusory body. The intermediate one is someone who, after entering the life force, is skilled in generating the four emptinesses arising from dissolution. If, on top of that ability, one can mix it with the emptiness of sleep, it is extremely praiseworthy. Mixing with the emptiness of sleep is like grasping the extent of mixing with the emptiness of death through the power of wind. For that person, it would be even better if they could mix with the emptiness of sleep even during deep sleep. The lowest one is someone who has fully received empowerment, protects vows and commitments, strives in the yoga of the first stage, and meditates on the completion stage. At the time of death, from the signs of earth dissolving into water, to the clear light of death, the order of actual manifestation, and the order of accomplishing the bardo immediately after rising from the clear light of death, are all very clear, and from now on, one should cultivate these key instructions extensively. This is like grasping with dream practice. Even if the clear light of death cannot be grasped by the power of wind, one can enter through the power of familiarity with the key instructions. If it is not the above situation, the stable habit of mind-abiding in this life is also important. If one remembers that samadhi at the time of death, its continuity will manifest. Because it is said that whatever virtuous mind one is most accustomed to in this life, one will enter into it before death. However, this is a common samadhi. Second, how these people grasp it: the best person attains Buddhahood in the bardo.
