Therefore, it seems necessary now to distinguish between the two situations controlled by karma and the power of aspiration. The way in which the clear light controlled by wind mixes with the clear light of death, and the way in which it is not so, but the present state is stable, and the aspiration is strong and the habit is deep, mixing with the clear light of death, and similarly, the distinctions of how the bardo appears as the sambhogakaya, it seems that there is still a need to further distinguish. If you want to understand these well, you should learn in detail from the instructions in the Lamrim teachings. If both the two clear lights and dreams are controlled by the power of wind, then the order of these two is to first grasp the clear light of sleep, and then enter the dream yoga. This is also mentioned in some of the guiding manuals. Because one cannot collect the life force (prana) into the wisdom channel (dhūtī), one should practice aspiration during the day, and control dreams through the power of aspiration, and when awake, through the power of a stable state, one can transform sleep into samadhi. The order of these two, which are called the clear light of sleep, is uncertain. If, when awake, relying on the two methods of inner and outer, one performs the three stages of the life force entering the central channel, abiding, and dissolving, thereby generating the so-called four joys and four emptinesses, and then, when coemergent wisdom arises, one practices the union of bliss and emptiness, and finally arises as the illusory body, and seals everything that arises with the bliss and emptiness of equipoise, and learns to appear in the form of a mandala deity, that is sufficient. If one thinks that there is no need to practice the clear light of sleep and the illusory body of dreams by relying on the remaining two chakras, then when falling asleep, the wind will naturally gather in the petals of the heart chakra. For those who are able to collect the life force into the wisdom channel when awake, if they focus their attention on the wisdom channel of the heart chakra, then the separated wind (ro rkyang) will gather in the central channel of the heart in a large amount. In general, the four emptinesses will arise, and in particular, the clear light of all emptiness will arise, and a powerful force of manifestation will arise. If one can maintain the clear light in this state as much as possible, then through this power, collecting the life force into the wisdom channel when awake will be more excellent, and it will become more stable, and this will also make the clear light of sleep more stable. Therefore, whether or not one has this ability, the power to advance on the path is strong.

The smallest difference is very great, and if one dies without attaining supreme accomplishment in this life, then the way of grasping the clear light of death is different from others. Similarly, at the end of the clear light of sleep, knowing to arise as a special dream body, and being accustomed to arising there, the illusory body of the waking state becomes powerful, and it also enters into the illusory body of the dream state. If one dies without attaining supreme accomplishment in this life, by the power of grasping the clear light by the power of the winds, because one is accustomed to the illusory body of the dream state, the situation of grasping the illusory body of the bardo is something that does not occur in any other situation. These two instructions are not reversed, and are extremely wonderful and very worthy of praise. The second is the way to practice each path: The intention of the tantra, mainly the illusory body, and the way to practice clear light during sleep, waking, and returning, needs to be understood as previously explained. Other than that, the way to practice, as it appears in the instruction manuals of the previous lamas, is explained in two parts: practicing illusion and practicing clear light. The first is divided into three: practicing appearance as illusion, practicing dream as illusion, and practicing bardo as illusion. The first is: As previously explained, combining the view of emptiness that has been thoroughly decided and the co-emergent bliss without separation, being accustomed to practicing in meditative equipoise, when rising from meditative equipoise, remembering the view, remembering to visualize everything that appeared before as deities, merely remembering causes all external appearances to naturally appear as illusion and the form of mandalas with and without support. Although these objects of focus are not needed, for those who are not like that, merely being accustomed to bliss in meditative equipoise, then in the post-meditative state, first determining that the ordinary appearances of the vessel and contents of the world are without inherent existence and guarding them. Dissolving one's own body, which appears in the mirror, into oneself, and determining it like one's own reflection, this has already been accomplished incidentally in the previous practice. Merely guarding this much is not very important for those with very dull faculties unless it is taught. In this way, if the definite understanding that all ordinary appearances of the vessel and contents of the world, while being without inherent existence, appear like illusion, is stable, then view all the vessel and contents of the world as the form of the two pure mandalas, and also visualize them as pure illusion appearing while being empty of inherent existence.
