Ba is the fault of not thoroughly examining whether it exists in the lineage. The physical key points for practicing pranayama are the same as before. Regarding the time for practice, the instructions of Phagmo Drupa say that the lamas say to practice when the winds are flowing equally, but for actual practice, it is said to practice day and night. Initially, when starting to practice anew, generally, the wind is the nature of speech vajra, and among them, especially when the wind of Padma Gonpo, the upward-moving wind, is mainly flowing, practice. This is stated in the commentary on the Vinaya Source, the Lotus Garland. In that, the action of inhaling is to do it through the nostrils, not inhaling through the mouth, and also not forcefully, but gently and slowly, as it is said. The action of filling is that from the moment of inhaling inward, without exhaling outward, pressing inward, a hissing sound comes from the two channels of ro-kyang, like the intestines being inflated. Think that the two channels are filled tightly. The action of suppressing is that from the moment when the two channels are filled like that, contemplate that all the winds of the two channels enter the central channel with a swoosh, swallow a mouthful of saliva silently, and press down on the place where the upper wind resides. Then, from the two lower doors, gently lift a gentle lower wind to the place of A-thung, focus there, and hold the breath as long as you can endure. Regarding this, in the verses of Phagmo Drupa's instructions, it says that contemplating the winds of the two ro-kyang channels entering the central channel is the action of filling, and holding the breath until it is unbearable, then exhaling a small portion, and accumulating the remainder is the suppressed pranayama. However, in the prose of the instructions, two inconsistencies with what was said before have occurred. Except for the fourth case, the first three are the way of drawing in the wind and the way of holding it. Exhaling seems to be indicated by the last one, so filling is filling the two ro-kyang channels with the inhaled wind, and suppressing is injecting the winds of those two into the central channel. Although it is the central channel that is filled, it is the winds of the other two channels that are suppressed. Regarding the practice of the navel vase breath, some do not lift the lower wind upward, but only press down on the upper wind, while others only press down on the upper wind at the beginning, and after a while, lift the lower wind, and it is said that they lift it three times. This is the navel vase breath.

If you don't understand the key points of meditation, then this kind of meditation is just as it is said, mixing the life-force wind above the navel and the downward-clearing wind below the navel in the navel. Similarly, in the Sutra of Gatherings, it is said, "The winds that go up and down should be joined together by the mind." Therefore, for vase breathing, it is said in the sutra that the upper and lower winds should be joined together. Therefore, both the upper and lower winds need to be joined together, but these two should not be inhaled at the same time, but should be inhaled sequentially. If there is no other special need, the upper wind should be inhaled first, pressed into the navel, and then the lower wind should be inhaled upwards and pressed into the previous position. In this way, one inhalation and one pressing are enough, and three are not necessary. The union of shooting like an arrow means that when exhaling, visualize the wind flowing upwards comfortably in the central channel, and do not visualize inhaling from the crown of the head. In this way, when guiding from above and below to the navel and holding it, do not focus on the body being filled with wind, and the throat and chest being filled with wind, etc. In the place where you meditate on the short A (seed syllable, Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: a, Chinese literal meaning: A), focusing on the union of the two winds is the most important key point. Because entering the life channel (central channel) requires two key points: one is to join the life-force wind and the downward wind in that channel, and the other is to visualize the letter (seed syllable, Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: a, Chinese literal meaning: A) there as before, and focus your attention there. Moreover, when the left and right channels are opened, the central channel must be closed; when the central channel is opened, the left and right channels must be closed. Therefore, by practicing the two goals of preventing the breath from flowing outwards from the left and right channels through vase breathing, and getting used to entering the central channel, the ability to enter the central channel will eventually arise. Regarding how to control the breath and how long to exhale after, the oral instruction of the venerable Phagmo Drupa says, "Initially, it is to regulate the channels, so do not force it when you cannot bear the breath, just suppress it slightly within the range that the breath can bear, and then gradually strengthen the suppression from the outside." As it is said, before the breath has smoothly reached a comfortable state, do not suppress it by tightening the upper body, and do not forcefully inhale and suppress, etc. Also, do not exceed the time when no obvious discomfort occurs, and even if discomfort occurs, do not prolong the holding time.
