Thus it is said. Also, in the Root Tantra, it says: "Body, speech, and mind, when dwelling in bliss, attain enlightenment. Otherwise, untimely death, and surely to be burned in hell." As it is said, the meaning of the first two, with the implication of the latter two, shows the benefit of practicing in bliss, and the direct statement of the latter shows the faults of practicing asceticism. Some explain this as the fault of the asceticism of the heretics. Some explain that having received empowerment and vows, and having realized the truth of this path, if one abandons it and practices asceticism, then the fault of incurring the eighth root downfall will occur. The path of the Unsurpassed, which bestows enlightenment in this life, depends on the union of bliss and emptiness, and that bliss arises from the increase of one's own body's bodhicitta, for which one needs one's own body with its faculties as a support, that is, a stable body. For this reason, the practice of how the senses enjoy the five objects as they desire is taught. In the Lamp Illuminating the Seventeenth Chapter, it also says: "All the vows are the women such as the lotus-holders. They are the basis of the three vajra vows, and should be satisfied and delighted by the actions of one's own body, speech, and mind. The so-called 'vajra of the heart is not to be despised' means that their hearts should not be separated from attachment, because the root of the body is the mind, and the root of the bodhicitta is the body." This is the intention. That is, relying on the body of the lotus-holders and others, one's own bodhicitta increases, and the root of that body is their mind. If their mind is displeased, it will harm the root cause of great bliss, thereby hindering the increase of the samadhi of great bliss. Therefore, it is said to protect their minds, and the precept of the fourteenth root downfall is also established for this reason. This reasoning should be understood similarly for afflicting one's own body and for increasing it. In the new and old translations of the Lamp Illuminating, it says: "The mind is the root of the body, and the root of the bodhicitta is the body, this is well said, but reversing the translation is not good." Thus, as it is said to practice in the six perfections, there is also the saying of practicing the path in which one should train, but here it is for the cause of great bliss, to enjoy the five desirable qualities with the understanding of their own nature.
