All non-conceptual wisdom is said to be any of the three appearances. Like this, the wisdom first grasping the object is appearance, then seeing the difference of the object becoming clear is increase, and finally being unclear and tending towards cessation is considered near attainment. This is not explained in the root and explanatory tantras, nor in the treatises of the noble father and sons. Moreover, it seems to contradict the nature of the three appearances as previously explained in the Compendium of Trainings. Regarding this, the previously mentioned three minds, three consciousnesses, and three characteristics, etc., are said to be synonyms for the three appearances because there is a reason for each of those terms to apply to the three appearances. But it is not that all of them are shown as the three appearances, because if that were the case, then the eighty natures would also become appearances, etc., and there would be many faults. Then, in the Five Stages it says: 'Night, day, and intermediate, appearance and appearance increase, likewise appearance near attainment. Mind has three aspects explained, its proof should be stated, winds with subtle form, mixed with knowledge and correct, arising from the gates of the senses, fixate on objects.' Like this, how is it said that the consciousness mixed with the subtle wind, arising from the gates of the senses such as the eye, and fixating on objects, are the three appearances? The meaning of that is, after explaining the three minds, saying the proof of these three, in the translation of the great translator of the Compendium of Trainings and the Chag translation, it says 'its basis is,' meaning that the wind, the support of the three minds, should be explained. Moreover, after the three minds are mixed with the wind, after mixing, due to the movement of the wind, the wisdom and natures that arise from the gates of the senses fixating on objects, that is the meaning. Because, at the very end of that scripture it says: 'When combined with appearance, becomes the mount of wind, then all those natures, without remainder, all arise. Wherever the wind dwells, the nature follows it.' Like this, including what was previously quoted, after quoting in the Compendium of Trainings, when summarizing those meanings, therefore, from entering the subtle realm, the appearance moves in an instant, a moment, a flash, a blink, a snap of the fingers. Then comes the sound.

A moment, a while, an instant, a blink of an eye, a clap of hands, and the natures will follow. As it is said, these also, at the time of taking birth, manifest the three emptinesses in reverse order, and then gradually experience and are born, and it is the meaning of repeatedly mixing with the emptiness of sleep. It is not to say that the entering consciousnesses and the discriminations of self-nature, by what birth order, actually arise from the three emptinesses. For consciousness, it can be determined that there are two kinds, with and without discrimination, but it is not necessary to determine that there are two kinds of appearance and self-nature. Therefore, although the root consciousnesses are not appearances, they are not necessarily self-nature. Second, if appearances are like this, then how do the eighty self-nature discriminations become the self-nature of appearance, and how do the self-natures arise from appearance? The thirty-three self-natures of the first appearance are: From the five stages, its self-nature is radiant and clear, now I will explain it in detail. Detachment and the middle, likewise, there are also the great ones. Going and coming in the mind, and sorrow and the like are also three. Tranquility and discrimination, fear, fear in the middle, extreme fear. Desire and desire in the middle, extreme desire and grasping. Non-virtuous hunger and thirst, feeling and feeling in the middle, the moment of extreme feeling. Knower and vidyadhara are four. Individual reflection and shame. Compassion and affection are three. Doubt and accumulation, and jealousy, are called actions. These thirty-three self-natures are self-aware by sentient beings. So it is said. Among them, detachment is the aspect of not desiring objects, and it is divided into three types: large, medium, and small. In the mind, that is, the going of the mind, is going out to external objects, and the coming is entering into internal objects. These are all generally applicable, this is the view of the Gos lineage. Sorrow is the mental pain of being separated from a pleasing object, and it is divided into three types: large, medium, and small. Tranquility is the mind abiding in tranquility, this is explained from the Don gsal. The former explain it as the leisure of the mind abiding in peace. Discrimination is explained from the Don gsal as abiding in agitation, the former explain it as the mind discriminating coarsely. Fear is encountering unpleasant things.
