Furthermore, there is no mention of collecting the appearances of objects. In reality, there is nothing to be gained. Second, there are two parts to explaining the instructions related to this: explaining the source of the instructions along with the circumstances, and actually explaining the instructions on sleep and dreams, etc. First, regarding these instructions on sleep and dreams, and the instructions on the moment of death and the bardo in this tradition, one might wonder which tantra and father-son treatises they rely on. In response, Je Gowo said: There are two explanations for attaining Buddhahood in the bardo: mixing with death and mixing with the bardo. For attaining Buddhahood through rebirth, it is explained as mixing with sleep. However, these instructions on mixing with dreams do not appear. Those mixtures are not explained for attaining Buddhahood in this life, and those are also explained by quoting the treatise "Compendium of Practices." These mixtures do not appear in the instructions of Naropa transmitted from Naktsö. However, the instructions on all four appear extensively in the transmission from Marpa. For attaining Buddhahood in this life, there is mixing with sleep and dreams. For attaining Buddhahood in the bardo, there is mixing with those two, as well as death and the bardo. For attaining Buddhahood through rebirth, all four are explained. It does not seem that this treatise clearly combines what is taught, except for mentioning it briefly. From the "Condensed Five Stages": "The dream body is for purification, at whatever time it appears as illusion, whatever object appearances are seen are all conventional, the stages of conventional illusion." And: "Train dream and illusion as one." Therefore, there are instructions on dreams. And: "Mix the three bardos." And, as quoted earlier, practice the five stages in connection with day and night, and in connection with the order of birth and death. Therefore, the instructions on mixing with sleep, and mixing with death and the bardo, are briefly taught. In the treatise of Gonpo Lu (Nagarjuna), the illusory body in the five stages is explained in the bardo. Apart from being able to explain those two as mixed, those mixtures are not clear in the wording. Luwang said: Apart from combining the completion stage with the death stage, there is no combination with the bardo, nor with sleep and dreams. In the generation stage, it is taught in combination with the three: birth, death, and bardo. Chandrakirti said: He explained the mixture of death and the bardo for attaining Buddhahood in the bardo. In the fifteenth chapter, when explaining all phenomena as dreamlike, dreams and

Apart from quoting the scriptures of the Compendium of Practices as a method for knowing that all phenomena in the waking state are without inherent existence, there is no actual discussion of mixing sleep and dreams. Therefore, it is meaningless to think that this school, like the fifteenth chapter, discusses dreams, thereby teaching the key points about holding dreams, etc. Therefore, the statement about mixing sleep and the four emptinesses is not found in any other father-son lineage treatise except for the Compendium of Practices. In the Compendium of Practices, it says: From one life to another, gradually becoming accustomed, through learning the Dharma of selflessness, one understands the yoga of complete mixing, and should merge with the nature of luminosity. Through this sequence, one should focus on the ultimate truth. The sequence is like this: the aggregates, etc., are absorbed into the subtle realm, the subtle realm is absorbed into the mind, the mind is absorbed into the intellect, and the intellect is again absorbed into ignorance. In this way, combining them, one falls asleep. At this time, the moment the mind and intellect are absorbed into ignorance is the forgetting of mindfulness. Afterwards, the very nature of wisdom, in which there is no forgetting, becomes clear. Again, when one awakens, the wind finds its nature. If other dreams do not arise, then as long as consciousness does not move, one continues to sleep and look at the luminosity. This is the ultimate truth, known by each individual, separated from body, speech, and mind, called the inner manifestation of enlightenment. Through this sequence, if all the Tathagata assemblies abiding in the mandala of the body are destroyed and absorbed into suchness, one will attain the excellent siddhi. For practices with and without elaboration, without dependence, one will very quickly completely transform one's own body here. That is the meaning. In the Transformation, it says: The wind shakes the nature, and if other dreams do not arise, this is true. At the end of that passage, it says: This meaning is stated in the Great Yoga Tantra called "Intentional Prophecy": Forms and other inner phenomena are called seeing, which is vipassanā (insight). Immovable and so on, according to their number, analysis is shamatha (calm abiding). These all become things without substance.
