Between, the four emptinesses arise. Thus, from the great stirring of the winds of the three appearances, natural thoughts are drawn forth. Therefore, it is said that the root of the natural thoughts of all sentient beings is the three appearances. As the Vajramala says: Having the nature of the three appearances, Here, the three consciousnesses are heard, Of all sentient beings' realms, This is the root of their nature. And: This is the great wind element, It is the vehicle of the three consciousnesses. By it, nature constantly, How it goes, so it becomes. And from the Five Orders: When it is endowed with appearance, It is the vehicle of the wind. At that time, all that nature, Arises without remainder. Wherever the wind abides, Nature follows it. It is said. Natural thoughts give rise to afflictions, and by accumulating karma, one is born in samsara. As the Vajramala says: Just as a thing burned by fire is no more, It dissolves without cause and goes. Again, when the wind of life arises, The winds of karma are various. It is together with consciousness, And again abides in the three worlds. From that, karma and likewise birth, From that, habits such as attachment, From that, again death and birth, Thus, it is like turning a wheel. It is said. As it is said, it does not say that the root of samsara is self-grasping, but shows that wind is the root of samsara. As it is also said in the Compendium of Conduct. And relying on grasping self and what belongs to self, virtuous and non-virtuous actions are done, and thus the order of entering the cycle of samsara in the good and bad realms is confirmed by the three sutras such as the Eight Thousand Verses. To clarify the meaning of these, the venerable Nagarjuna said: If all this is empty, And is unborn in nature, Happiness and suffering enter here, How can one transmigrate by karma? As soon as one clings to self, By defilements such as desire, Being judged and controlled by others, Children are tormented by suffering. All these are only mind, And truly arise as illusory forms. Then virtuous and non-virtuous actions, By that, one is born in good and bad realms. It is said that this is taught. This is of both Sutra and Tantra.

are common functions. Therefore, it should be understood that the statement that wind generates cyclic existence is a contributing factor to the generation of cyclic existence by afflictions such as self-grasping. This is the common function of the winds, and the individual functions are: The function of the life-sustaining wind is: In the Vajra Garland, it says: "The continuous function of the sense doors is: life and effort move, and constantly move at all times, it is said to be called life." Here, there are many different translations of the Vajra Garland, and those quoted in it, but the meaning is: The constant entry and exit of wind in the five sense doors is mainly due to its power, and it is sustained by this, therefore it is life, and making it grow long is the meaning of effort, therefore Abhayakara believes that it performs the two functions of sustaining life for a long time. The function of the winds going out and collecting inward at the sense doors has been described in Amrita Secret. The function of the downward-clearing wind is: "Life and wind and external earth, similarly, semen and so on, guiding downwards is the downward-clearing wind, the yogi should always know." It is said that guiding semen and so on downwards is the function of the downward-clearing wind. In other translations, it is better to replace life with urine. Guiding the wind downwards means guiding the winds to the lower part, especially to the two doors of the secret place, and then guiding them to the navel as previously described. The function of the equally abiding wind is: "Swallowing and chewing and licking, completely drinking and sucking, whatever constantly abides equally, is called equally abiding." It is said. In the Interrupted Practice, it is said that food and drink are acted upon by the equally abiding wind. It is also said in what Manjushri quoted: "The navel food and so on, for the sake of guiding equally, is equally abiding." The meaning of this is, as the Amrita Secret says: "It digests food and drink and so on at the same time." In the same way, the food that is enjoyed is digested into the same taste in the navel. The function of the upward-moving wind is: "Moving upwards and collecting, eating and tasting and so on, knowing and arriving together, it should be known as the function of the upward-moving wind." It is said, knowing and together.
