Due to misunderstandings of the many doctrines of various schools spoken in Doha and elsewhere, it seems that the ways of the great Brahmin are adopted all at once, while the ways of Nagarjuna are adopted gradually. Therefore, the view that there are two paths for initially entering this path, one for those of middling capacity to practice gradually, and one for those of extremely sharp capacity to realize instantly, is contrary to all tantras and reliable treatises. A detailed explanation of these views has already been given in the Stages of the Path of the Great Vajradhara. The second part is divided into two points: how to practice the generation stage and how to practice the completion stage. The first point is: based on the preliminaries of the two stages having been completed, one must first practice the generation stage. So, to what extent should the generation stage be practiced, and how should the stages be learned? This is divided into two points: the extent to which the generation stage needs to be practiced, and how to learn the stages. The first point is: in the twelfth chapter of the root tantra, the meaning of the four branches of recitation and practice of the generation stage, from meditating on the wisdom ground to the ultimate peak of karma-supreme, has been explained by the Lamp Illuminating. Again, in the same chapter, it says: "Or, with the four vajras, perform the recitation with steadfast asceticism." The generation stage of this teaching, which is mentioned, is said in the Lamp Illuminating to be the condensed generation stage. That is what is said in the later tantra: "First is emptiness bodhi, second is the gathering of seeds, third is the perfection of form itself, fourth is the writing of letters." It is explained as this meaning. Naropa explained this meaning as being from meditating on the wisdom ground to the mandala supreme, considering the growth with the four vajras. The condensed saying is from the wisdom ground to the writing of the letters of vajra and lotus. That is only the extent of what is directly said, so after that, subtle practices and recitations must also be added. In the Lamp Illuminating of the eleventh chapter, from meditating on the wisdom ground to the single recollection of the six lineages between the three-layered bodhisattvas, it is explained that if one learns four sessions there, the tantra will mature, which is also the same meaning as this condensed method of accomplishment. Apart from this division of the method of accomplishment into extensive and condensed, it is not explained in the treatises of the noble father and sons. Therefore, for this tradition, one must first guide a hero like Vajradhara and then clarify it to him.

If the appearance is stable, then one should follow the practice of being led to the remaining methods of accomplishment; otherwise, merely meditating on a single pair of father and mother deities will not ripen the roots of virtue to fully generate the realization of the completion stage. Therefore, some followers of the Mar tradition think that it is more important to accumulate merit than to meditate on the wheel of the mandala. For the preliminary practice of the completion stage, it is said that it is sufficient to meditate on the wisdom body of the father and mother deities arising from emptiness, and that the phrase "well abiding in the generation stage" in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara also indicates just that. This is not in accordance with any pure texts of the noble ones, and it also contradicts one's own tradition, as it is clearly stated in the Condensed Five Stages: "This generation stage is the body of the deity, the supreme mandala of the perfect Buddha, which makes the form manifest, is the culmination of good training." Therefore, the statement that generating the wisdom body is a preliminary practice for meditating on the completion stage contradicts what is said in the Compendium of Practices, that there is no deity body from the generation stage up to mental isolation, but that the wisdom body is generated from the illusory body. In particular, the distinction between the mantra body and the wisdom body in the generation stage raises doubts as to whether it is in accordance with this tradition. In short, one should understand how much generation stage practice is needed to ripen the continuum and generate the realization of the completion stage. Therefore, it is important to practice the generation stage to at least a certain extent. Furthermore, it is also stated in the root commentary of the thirteenth chapter that in order to protect the mind of a beginner from distraction, it is necessary to meditate on the protective wheel in four sessions. Secondly, the stages of learning the generation stage are as follows: As it is said in the Compendium of Practices: "When one is accustomed to the thought of the Buddha Vehicle, one should train in single-pointed concentration. When one is accustomed to that, one should train in conceptual yoga. When one is accustomed to that, one should abide in the concentration of a beginner." This is what it refers to. In this regard, the commentary on the Compendium of Practices says that learning the generation stage with a single moment is single-pointedness, and learning with many moments is conceptual yoga, which is unreasonable, because the Lamp Illuminating the Teachings says that generating from the five manifest enlightenments such as Vairochana is single-pointedness. Some also quote the Lamp Illuminating the Teachings from the eleventh chapter.
