It is good to say "holding." It is not good to say, "With the combination of letters on the palate, with the combination of the mantra of the seed syllable (Tibetan: བུ་, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanized:, Chinese literal meaning:) Ksham (Tibetan: ཀྵཱིཾ་, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanized:, Chinese literal meaning:)." Holding the tip of the vajra like this is also holding the tip of the lotus, at the junction of the two channels. In the root tantra it is also said, "Enjoying all desires, reciting without diminishing the limbs of the mantra." Therefore, for some particularly great yogis, it is not contradictory to rely on karma mudra in this case as well. Here, one also meditates by relying on jnana mudra. If one can apply what is said in the Lamp Illuminating to the guidance text of the five stages, then the life force of collecting the winds into the central channel will appear to be supreme. In the Lamp Illuminating it says, "That upward-going breath is of five colors." This translation is not as good as Patshab's translation, "The breath itself." The wind that was previously described as the breath of wisdom and arising, that breath itself goes upward into the gate of the senses, is of five colors, is the nature of the five Tathagatas. Therefore, it is precious. Life is living, and exertion is effort and lengthening, the meaning of exertion comes from old translations. Patshab translated it as "By what does it lengthen and extend, therefore it is called life exertion" is better. The meaning is that by what does it lengthen life, that wind is called life exertion. The Sanskrit word for exertion is Ayama, which means effort, stopping, and long mouth, etc., here it is the last meaning. Therefore, life and exertion is a translation error, if it is a copulative compound, it will become two words. Tibetan scholars say this. From the perspective of the Kalachakra, it is made into the power of the intermediate state, stopping life is the meaning of life exertion. The Tibetan word exertion does not include both stopping and lengthening, but from its Sanskrit etymology, it can include both of these meanings. Similarly, the "collecting" in the Tibetan word sordug has the meaning of taking, it does not have the meaning of each and repeatedly, but it is not contradictory to have it in the Sanskrit etymology. The wind that goes upward into the upper gate, with the nature of entering, rising, and abiding, repeats naturally day and night, therefore it is self-mantra. The commentary here

In the old translations, it says, "because it is repeated day and night." "Self-mantra in the heart," that is, visualizing on the lotus of one's own heart. Although it says this, in the commentary of the new translations, it says, "because of repetition, therefore it is the self-mantra." This is good, because "because" is the reason. The reason for the wind, life, and effort mentioned above is not, and there is no other reason that can be applied, so it must be taken as the reason for the self-mantra. In the eleventh chapter of the "Lamp Illuminating," it also says, "The self-mantra is the three letters that have the nature of entering, etc." Here, in the commentary on the later tantra of Naropa, "life and effort" refers to, visualizing the lotus of one's own heart as a short A. Among them, the explanation of life and effort, the repetition of wind entering etc. day and night, and the self-mantra that appears in the "Lamp Illuminating" are not present. This is because the book is incorrect, or it is a mistake in translation. Because the other parts of the six branches appear as they are in the "Lamp Illuminating." Regarding the explanation of visualizing the short A in the heart, some Indian Sanskrit versions of the "Lamp Illuminating" have it, or it is to satisfy the intention of the commentary. In the "Lamp Illuminating," the indestructible bindu is explained, which is consistent with the scripture quoted in the "Compendium of Practices," which explains the indestructible short A in the heart, so it is good. "Life is established as becoming a bindu." For this sentence, only "belonging to the indestructible and abiding" appears in the "Lamp Illuminating," nothing else. Its meaning is that the bindu is the indestructible to be visualized in the heart. Life is all the winds. "Becoming and abiding" means belonging to the category of the indestructible and abiding, that is, all the winds are integrated into the indestructible. This is the function of practicing the three, life, effort, and action. Here, in the "Secret Nectar," it says, "The self-mantra is three letters, and visualizing in the heart means that those three letters are integrated into the three, the arising, entering, and abiding of the wind, and those three letters are also visualized as integrated into the life wind." Visualizing the life wind as integrated into the indestructible bindu is the explanation of the meaning of "life is established as becoming a bindu." The Victorious One, Glorious One, said, "When visualizing the self-mantra in the heart, visualize the Hum letter there, and the indestructible sound that arises from the Hum letter is called the subtle A letter in the form of a bindu." The mind is
