That is the meaning. What is expressed by letters is, as stated in the Tantra, "All short sounds are transformed into speech." This is only the meaning of the extent to which sound is obtained, but there is also a definite meaning that is different from that. That is, it means where it enters, why it enters, and how it enters. Regarding this, the Tibetan lamas say, where do language and words enter? They enter into the meaning of what they want to express. Why do they enter? They enter through the path of the short 'a' becoming the cause. How do they enter? It is meaningless to explain that from the accumulation of many letters, words are formed, from the accumulation of words, sentences are formed, from the accumulation of sentences, speech is formed, and from the accumulation of speech, treatises are accomplished. If that were the case, it would be very unreasonable to say that one cannot understand by explaining the scriptures based on the treatises of sound. So what is it? Here, the one who enters is, the symbolic meaning spoken in the speech of the nature of Āli Kālī, appearing in the form of wind, sound, and clarity. Where does it enter? It enters into the indestructible place in the heart, which has already been explained by quoting the Compendium of Practices. Why does it enter? As stated in the Compendium of Practices, "Having obtained the indestructible, things will disappear." Therefore, it is for the sake of making things disappear and manifesting luminosity. How does it enter? It enters in the manner of the stages of dissolution, such as earth dissolving into water. The suchness of the letter short 'a' in those three ways is the realm of the Buddhas, and it is a secret meaning for the lower trainees, so they cannot understand it. In the commentary on the Compendium of Practices, when entering the meaning of letters through hearing and so on, explaining that non-holy people cannot understand it, just as pointing to the moon with a finger, is not seeing the meaning. Regarding the method of gradually understanding the teachings, "all speech" refers to all forty-nine letters of the sixteen vowels and thirty-three consonants. These gradually accumulate, and from them arise the treatises of the world and beyond the world, such as the Sutras and Tantras, thereby perfecting all accomplishments. Knowing the differences of the letters contained in those languages and words is due to the fact that the short 'a' is the life force, because letters such as 'ka' without the short 'a' do not exist, because they are finite.

To say "it will not become words" means: all short vowels become language. This is an explanation of the direct meaning of what is said. Then, as it is said in the 'Namasamgiti': "A is the most excellent of all letters, it is a sacred letter of great meaning. It arises from emptiness, it is unborn, it abandons expression in words, it is the best cause of all expressions, it makes all words perfectly clear." Quoting this is not to prove that short A must possess all other letters. Therefore, the Bhagavan said, "A is unborn, therefore it is the door of all dharmas, the seed word of all meditations." It is also said to be a co-emergent letter. In the tantra called 'Vajra Mandala Ornament' it is also said, "In order to clearly show A, in the center of the heart is the indestructible," etc., as quoted before. In short, as quoted before, therefore, all Tathagatas become of the lineage of A, A becomes the cause, and A is the inevitable source. Based on the reasons stated in the three scriptures, it is proven that the Buddhas arise from A, but not that all languages have short A. Finally, in the 'Compendium of Practices', the 'Lankavatara Sutra' says, "One should abide in meaning, one should not abide in letters. Following letters will make oneself also fall away from the ultimate meaning, and one will also not understand others. If one person points out a meaning with the tip of a finger, that person follows and only looks at the tip of the finger. Similarly, children also become attached to the literal meaning and do not seek the ultimate meaning. Therefore, one who desires meaning should not rely on it, one should abandon attachment to the literal meaning and seek meaning." Quoting this as a basis, if one only clings to the literal meaning that short A includes all words, then one cannot find the other meaning it represents. Just as looking only at the tip of a finger does not see the meaning it represents, therefore it is necessary to seek other meanings from its literal meaning. So, what is that meaning? To this, the Tibetan lamas think that all the sounds of language come from vowels and consonants, and all of these come from short A, short A body.
