Due to misunderstanding many texts, such as the Dohas, which state that mainly relying on gradual practice, when one can practice co-emergent wisdom, it prevents the practice of elaborations such as the generation stage. Therefore, it seems that there is the sudden enlightenment method of the great Brahmin school, and the gradual method of Nagarjuna. Therefore, for the initial stages of entering this path, the view that those with middling and dull faculties gradually practice, and those with extremely sharp faculties suddenly realize, is contradictory to all tantras and reliable scriptures. The detailed explanation of these views has already been discussed in the stages of the Great Vajradhara's path. The second part is divided into two: the method of practicing the generation stage and the method of practicing the completion stage. The first part is: If the preliminaries of the two stages have been completed, then one must first practice the generation stage. Then, how much of the generation stage should be practiced, and how should the stages be learned? This is divided into two: how much of the generation stage should be practiced, and how should the stages be learned. The first is: In the twelfth chapter of the Root Tantra, the meaning of the four branches of recitation and practice of the generation stage is explained by the Lamp Illuminating, from practicing the wisdom ground to the ultimate action of the supreme king. Furthermore, in the same chapter, it says: Or with the four vajras, perform recitation with steadfast asceticism. The generation stage mentioned is said in the Lamp Illuminating as the abbreviated generation stage. That is, as stated in the Later Tantra: The first is emptiness bodhi, the second is the collection of seed syllables, the third is the perfection of form, the fourth is the placement of letters. It is explained as this meaning. The meaning here is that what Naropa said from practicing the wisdom ground to the mandala supreme king refers to the meaning of increasing with the four vajras. The abbreviated statement is from the wisdom ground to the placement of the letters of vajra and lotus. Although it is only directly stated, subtle practices and recitations must also be added afterward. In the Lamp Illuminating of the eleventh chapter, the sameness of mindfulness of the six lineages from practicing the wisdom ground to the triple bodhisattva is explained, and it is said that if one trains in four sessions, the tantra will mature, which is also the same meaning as this abbreviated practice. The practice is divided into extensive and concise.

Apart from this, it is not mentioned in the treatises of the noble father and sons (referring to Maitreya and his spiritual sons). Therefore, for this tradition, one must first guide a hero like Vajradhara (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་འཆང་, Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रधर, Sanskrit Romanization: Vajradhara, Literal Chinese meaning: Diamond Holder), and only when his clarity is stable, then guide him to practice the remaining skillful means. It is only by doing so that it is possible. Merely meditating on a single union of father and mother deities is not capable of maturing the roots of virtue for the complete arising of the realization of the completion stage. Therefore, some of the Marpa Kagyu lineage say that it is more necessary to accumulate merit than to meditate on the wheel of the mandala. For the preliminary practices of the completion stage, it is enough to merely contemplate the wisdom body of the father and mother deities arising from emptiness. And they say that "Abiding Well in the Generation Stage" also only teaches this much. This is not in accordance with any pure treatises of the noble teachings, and it also contradicts one's own tradition, because in "The Condensed Light of the Five Stages" it says: This deity body of the generation stage, is the supreme mandala of the perfect Buddha, which makes all aspects manifest, and the one who is well-trained will attain the ultimate. Therefore, saying that generating the wisdom body as a preliminary practice for meditating on the completion stage is contrary to what is said in the "Compendium of Practices" that there is no deity body from the beginning of the generation stage until the mind is isolated, and that the wisdom body arises from the illusory body. In particular, dividing the mantra body and the wisdom body into two in the generation stage raises doubts as to whether it is in accordance with the views of this tradition. In short, one must know how much practice of the generation stage is needed to ripen the continuum so that the realization of the completion stage arises completely. Therefore, it is important to practice the generation stage at least to a certain extent. In the root commentary of the thirteenth chapter, it is also said that in order to protect the distracted mind of the beginner, one must practice the protective wheel in four sessions. Second, the order of learning the generation stage is: In the "Compendium of Practices" it says: When one is accustomed to the thought of the Buddha vehicle, one should practice single-pointed concentration. When one is accustomed to this concentration, one should practice conceptual yoga. When one is accustomed to this yoga, one should abide in the concentration of the beginner. This is what is said. In the commentary on the "Compendium of Practices," it says that practicing the generation stage with one instant is single-pointed concentration, and practicing with many instants is conceptual yoga, which is unreasonable.
