Sutra. The latter part of what is called "Sutra" is particularly good, as it shows that just as one attains Buddhahood through the path of luminosity and union, so too does one attain Buddhahood by that method at the end of other paths, and not as a means of establishing what was previously shown. The six words "Shakyamuni" indicate that Shakyamuni considered attaining Buddhahood through the great emptiness, and therefore remained in unwavering samadhi on the banks of the Nairanjana River. Only these are mentioned in the Extensive Play Sutra, but the rest, such as "At that time, the Victorious One, Space Vajra," etc., are not shown to be mentioned in that sutra. The great emptiness is explained as the near attainment by some commentators on the Five Stages, but it would be better to take it as the samadhi of the fourth dhyana pervading space, as mentioned in the sutra, which is also called unwavering samadhi. In the Condensed Conduct, only the exhortation to Shakyamuni is mentioned, but the four words "at that time" are said to exhort him to remain on the riverbank. In the condensed version of that, Bodhisattva Dondup remained under the Bodhi tree, and the Tathagatas exhorted him, but it is not clear whether it was Akanishta or the desire realm. In the Vajrasekhara Sutra, it is said to be the Akanishta dense array. The way of exhortation by sound is with the four words "This meditation is," because the previous meditation cannot completely purify all obscurations, so one cannot attain the ultimate state, so exhort one to manifest luminosity. Then, with four words, exhort one to manifest the state of Vajradhara of union with eight powers, the way of exhortation, the gradual change is clear. The exhortation by sound is said in the condensed version of that sutra: "Do all the Tathagatas think that one should attain Buddhahood by practicing austerities without realizing suchness?" Apart from that, the way of exhortation mentioned here, and the way of manifesting the result after exhortation, are not found in the condensed version of that sutra and the peak sutras, so this seems to be arranged in another unsurpassed tantra. Like these four words, and in the Condensed Conduct, the two mentioned from "unwavering" to "manifest," must be said to be one meaning, so on the riverbank remaining is an exhortation, and after rising from there, under the Bodhi tree.

While dwelling, at midnight, through the empowerment based on the hand seal, the clear light is made manifest. The four phrases "all is empty" clarify "that is the object." The four phrases "like a vajra" indicate obtaining the non-learning union body at dawn, the two phrases "bodhi" indicate subduing the maras, and the four phrases "Shakya" indicate obtaining the result and then showing it to others. In the "Differentiation of the Limits of Action," it also says: "In endless kalpas, through giving heads and jewels, etc., because appearances are impure, the fruit of bodhi will not be obtained. In endless kalpas, likewise, through discipline, patience, etc." At the end, it is as before. It also says: "In endless kalpas, through the samadhi of the mantra body." At the end, it is also as before, and then it says: "The purification of the three appearances is omniscience, without doubt." Regarding this, the first two verses indicate the Paramita Vehicle, and then one verse indicates only the generation stage, and the path of the three lower tantras cannot purify the three appearances. Therefore, the intention of saying that one cannot obtain unsurpassable bodhi is: at the time of the three appearances, there is the illusion of dualistic appearance, and until the habitual tendencies of that dualistic appearance illusion are completely purified, there is absolutely no turning back. Therefore, in order to purify in a way that completely reverses it, it is necessary to realize the meaning of suchness through innate bliss and practice, and this is not found outside of the Unsurpassable Vehicle. In the "Drop of Liberation," it also says: "Why did Shakyamuni, accumulate merit for countless kalpas, not realize this meaning in the Nairanjana, and abide in the nothingness samadhi? At that time, all the Sugatas, turned him with sudden wisdom, like the center of the sky, extremely pure, deep, clear, and stainless. At midnight, like a fainting spell, by meditating on that very meaning, at dawn, in an instant, he realized it correctly." Etc., which is consistent with the previous two. Nothingness refers to sudden emptiness, and it is explained that by the blessing of the teacher who practices together, one obtains that very meaning as if fainting. The teacher is explained as the vidya. In the "Ear of Instructions," it also says: "Supreme and ultimate."
