My own rule is: the method of elimination must also be done with gentle means, not with harsh means. Thus, the key points of Vajra recitation are explained in detail as follows: It seems that many people perform Vajra recitation in the instructions, but just as the Vajra recitation is thoroughly explained in the chapters of Guhyasamaja, it does not appear in other tantras and treatises. It is also rare to explain it well in the Guhyasamaja tradition. Therefore, the Holy Father and Son did not explain other wind yogas, but to determine the ultimate meaning of explaining this. Third, there are five points to learning the Samadhi of Mind Isolation and Vajra Heart: the reason why one must realize the nature of the mind; the way the state of mind is spoken of in the scriptures; the special method of realizing the nature of the mind is the unsurpassed tantra; the meaning of the tantra, the three appearances and natures are shown; and the faults of not knowing it as it is and the benefits of knowing it are shown. The first point is: In general, those who abide in the Vajrayana, especially those who learn and are accustomed to Vajra recitation, and who wish to attain Buddhahood, must seek how their own mind's nature is. That is, it is said in the Compendium of Thatness: "Son of the lineage, abide in equality, individually awaken your own mind." And it is also said in the Manifestation of Enlightenment: "Enlightenment is to fully know one's own mind as it truly is." And it is also said in the rules of the Tripitaka: "Alone it goes and wanders far, bodiless it dwells in the senses, it tames the mind that is difficult to tame, it becomes liberated from the bonds of Mara." Therefore, if one wishes to manifest the illusory body, one must abandon all five obstacles such as agitation and sleep, please the qualified guru who has perfectly obtained the oral instructions of all the Tathagatas, follow the explanatory tantras such as the Wisdom Vajra Samuccaya, and realize the three consciousnesses of the appearance of self-nature, as it is said in the Compendium of Conduct. If you want to learn Mind Isolation, the three quotes cited as the reason why you must seek the nature of the mind show that you must realize the suchness of the mind. Some Tibetans and Indians think that the wisdom of Mind Isolation is Dharma.

It is mind consciousness, not the nature of mind. If it were known, it would become indistinguishable from clear light. This is a refutation of that statement. The wisdom of the fourth stage of clear light directly realizes the nature of mind. Although mind-isolation knows the nature, it does not become manifest, so it does not become indistinguishable. Although the three quotations from the Sutra Pitaka and the two lower Tantras are not to show the three wisdoms of mind-isolation, they serve as a reason for understanding the nature of mind. Second, if the suchness of mind must be investigated, what is it like? On this, the Compendium of Trainings explains two ways of speaking from the Perfection Vehicle and the Mantra Vehicle. First, from the Lankavatara Sutra: Because one wants to know that the appearance of grasping and attachment of one's own mind is the realm of the Buddhas. Disturbances and sleep, etc., should be abandoned, and the three, mind, intellect, and consciousness, are taught as the root of all containers and contents. In the old translation of the Compendium of Trainings, it says, "The realm of discrimination." However, Chag translated it as, "Discrimination is the realm of the Buddhas," which is better. From the Questions of Good Protection: Consciousness takes the body, and even if it enters lower states of existence, it is not stained by its faults. Wherever consciousness transmigrates, the fruits of karma, the experience of happiness and suffering, also transmigrate. Because the truth is not seen, consciousness is not known. The meaning of these is summarized as follows: Thus, consciousness is without color, without characteristics, without form, and is merely self-aware wisdom, as taught in the Great Vehicle Sutras. The realm of the Buddhas refers to the nature of mind; being taught as the root of all things refers to the nature of the subject; even if mind enters various states of existence, its nature does not change; because it is not a noble one, it cannot be directly known. Therefore, mind is empty of all characteristics in the ultimate sense, and in conventional terms, it is without color or shape, does not depend on other cognitions, and is merely a consciousness that knows its own object. The way it is taught in the Vajra Vehicle is also the same.
