Not knowing images, being ignorant due to just the wind. After summoning the Alaya consciousness, it acts within the habitual tendencies. Habitual tendencies and consciousness are a pair, from the sequence of mixing with habitual tendencies. By the habitual tendencies of attachment, those at the time of menstruation, enter into the womb's veins. Thereafter, semen and blood melt into drops, becoming mixed together, like being intoxicated by alcohol. From the Alaya consciousness's habitual tendencies, various consciousnesses arise. The afflicted mind and life-wind itself, always correctly go forth. Thus it is said. The meaning of those is, the term 'habitual tendencies' indicates both the Alaya and the afflicted mind, those two together with the life-sustaining wind, create a different form in the bardo, because all the senses are complete. The meaning of blue and so forth, one cannot ascertain existence, because it is obscured by sorrow and so forth, and because the shadow-like body is devoid of the nature of form. Due to the power of past karma, after summoning the Alaya, it wanders within various habitual tendencies, the life-wind and the Alaya both simultaneously mix with past habitual tendencies, that is, by that power, it arises from the sequence of the cessation of the death-state. When those two enter into the unarisen part of the womb's vein, they faint as if intoxicated by alcohol. From that, the arising of consciousness is the afflicted mind, and consciousness holds the habitual tendencies. The commentary explains it thus. The intent of the tantra is the afflicted mind, acting upon the habitual tendencies of affliction, it is taught thus at this time, and at other times, when the eight consciousnesses are combined with the eight Bodhisattvas, it can also be known by combining Maitreya and habitual tendencies. Because of whose habitual tendencies is it explained in the Alaya, the main one is the mind's consciousness. By combining the eight Bodhisattvas and the eight consciousnesses, there is no need to desire the Alaya and afflicted mind that are not included in the six aggregates, because the form aggregate is combined with the Alaya consciousness, the five senses such as the eye are combined with Kshitigarbha and so forth, and the four elements are combined with the four such as Locana, just as there is no need to desire the four elements and the five senses such as the eye that are not included in the form aggregate. This system, the consciousness that experiences the clear light of death at the base time, by the very nature of that, manifests the clear light at the path time, because that is the mind's consciousness, death

The mind is not the Alaya. Therefore, the Alaya and the afflicted mind are similar only in name, but completely different in meaning. In the "Orderly Arrangement," it is said that when the intermediate state being enters the womb, it attains the ground of wisdom, so the intermediate state being experiencing the clear light of death is the death of the intermediate state being. The second similar kind is birth, which is the joining of rebirth. In summary, these meanings can be summarized into three points: determining the wheel of the birthplace where one will be born; determining the way the intermediate state being abides there; and determining what the consciousness is that joins after entering. First, the way of joining rebirth has already been explained. Second, it is divided into two parts: explaining the order of body formation and the order of body destruction. First, it is divided into two parts: the order of body formation itself and the way of abiding after formation. First, it is divided into two parts: generally explaining the order of formation and separately explaining the order of formation. First is, in the "Vajra Garland Tantra," it says, "At that time, it dissolves into its own place." After that, it says, "From consciousness arises wind, from wind arises fire, from fire arises water, from water arises earth, from these arise aggregates, therefore arises the sense bases, from there arises the nature of consciousness, the order of one hundred and eight." In the "Collected Wisdom Vajra," it also says, "The true consciousness that arises from the clear light is called mind and intellect, and it is the root of all dharmas that have the nature of complete affliction and complete purification. From this, two kinds of discrimination arise, namely self and other. Consciousness rides on the wind, from wind arises fire, from fire arises water, from water arises earth. These are the five aggregates, the six sense bases, and the five objects, all of which are the complete mixture of wind and consciousness. Then, consciousness will clearly experience the intense activity of the three natures and appearances, and the cause of appearance will give rise to the natures." Here, it says that clear light gives rise to consciousness, which refers to the clear light of death before the intermediate state giving rise to the consciousness of the intermediate state, and the clear light of the death of the intermediate state giving rise to the consciousness of this life.
