That is to generate joy. The first is, the lama says: Some seek the meaning of practicing secret mantras, therefore they enter the mandala. Some are different from this because they want merit. Others seek the benefits of other worlds. Because of the many faiths that arise for those who seek the benefit of the next life. Wise people should enter the mandala, do not desire the fruits of this life. For those who desire this life, the benefits of the next life will not change. If the desire for the benefit of the next life arises, the fruits of this life will also increase. After saying this, for merely desiring the high status of this life and entering to practice mantras, and merely desiring the high status of the next life and entering because of wanting merit, and other than merely desiring the high status of this life and the next life, for the sake of the fruit of the three bodies, seeking to enter the mandala in three situations, do not do as the first two, but generate thoughts like the latter, explain the characteristics of the tantra, thereby adjusting the motivation. The light emitted by the seed syllable in the heart, which appears as the main deity, enters from the mouth of each disciple, comes out from the vajra path, and does not arise in the lotus of the consort, but abides in the form of a single face and two arms. With the light of the seed syllable in the heart, invite the five families of lords and consorts, enter from the mouth, and melt and come out as before. Meditate on empowering each disciple in turn, take them out of the lotus, and place them at the east gate of the mandala. The second is, then, with one disciple as the leader, say this to everyone through him: Child, come here, great vehicle practitioner! The practice ritual of secret mantras, I will truly explain to you. You are a vessel of great conduct, possessing the vajra of body, speech, and mind. The Buddhas who appear in the three times, by the power of the vajra mantra, have truly attained incomparable wisdom. The incomparable union of secret mantras, by which Shakya Simha and other supreme ones, subdued the hosts of demons, the great and powerful heroes. After understanding the followers of the world, they turned the wheel of Dharma and entered nirvana. Therefore, in order to attain omniscience, child, you should do this. Explain the meaning of these words and make them generate firm faith. The third is, then, let the disciple take refuge, confess sins, and rejoice in virtues as preliminaries.

One should generate a straight intention, thinking: I will take the entering vows of generating the mind of enlightenment of the Buddha. The lama recites: I take refuge in the Three Jewels! I confess all sins separately! I rejoice in the virtue of beings! I take hold of the Buddha's enlightenment with my mind! After reciting, have the disciple repeat it three times, thereby taking the common vows. Then, have the disciple generate a strong intention, thinking: From now until I attain enlightenment, for the benefit of all sentient beings, I will protect all the vows of the five families in general and individually. The lama recites: All Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, please consider me, I, so-and-so, from this time until the essence of enlightenment, like the protectors of the three times... May sentient beings be placed in Nirvana. After reciting, have the disciple repeat it three times, thereby having him take the uncommon Vajrasattva vows. If one cannot protect either of these two vows, then no water empowerment or higher should be given. If one can protect the common vows but cannot protect the second, then it is said that the main vase empowerment or higher should not be given. Therefore, at the time of receiving, the ritual should not be interrupted and the meaning should be understood, with a strong desire to receive and protect, and the one who bestows it should also be a vow-holder who does not have root downfalls of mantra, performing the ritual, which is very important. Then, protect the disciple by sprinkling the water of purification with the recitation that eliminates obstacles, and visualize on the disciples': in the center of the black five-pronged vajra at the heart is (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum), in the center of the red eight-petaled lotus at the throat is (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आः, Sanskrit Romanization: āḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Ah), in the center of the white eight-spoked wheel at the crown of the head is (Tibetan: ༀ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om). The teacher touches with the vajra with holy water, and by reciting (Tibetan: ༀ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: , Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ āḥ hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om Ah Hum), the light of the three syllables shines, visualizing without impurity. Then, offer flowers on his head, incense and lamps in front, and anoint perfume on his heart. The fourth is: a milk tree that is neither too thick nor too thin, straight and without knots, without wormholes or wounds, the same at both ends, washed with holy water and fumigated with incense, twelve fingers long, with flowers tied to the top. The teacher faces north, recites the three syllables, gives it to the disciple, and places it on the ground to dispel obstacles.
