So, how should we understand the statement that "the ālaya-vijñāna holds onto existence"? This is because it excludes external things other than the mind, but it does not exclude the mere mind being established by its own nature. The reason for saying mind-only is to dispel the fear of emptiness in all children. However, this is not the ultimate reality, and the view held by yogis that the purity of the mind, obtained through transformation, is established by its own nature and established as the object of their respective self-awareness, when excluded, in order to answer the dispute in their minds, namely, "If the mind does not exist, then the movement of beings coming from the previous life to this life and going from this life to the next would be unreasonable," just as iron and wood can move without mind, the ālaya, although not truly existent, appears to be in a state of coming and going, as if it were truly existent. Therefore, it does not acknowledge that the ālaya-vijñāna is established by its own characteristics, as described in other treatises. If someone thinks that even if the ālaya is not acknowledged to be established by its own characteristics, it is acknowledged that there is an ālaya, different in essence from the six consciousnesses, like an illusion, which is the seed of all pure dharmas, then if such an ālaya is acknowledged, it must be acknowledged that after the habits of the ālaya mature, they merely appear as forms, sounds, etc., and there is no external object. However, in that very treatise, it says, "Consciousness understands the knowable; without action, there is no consciousness. If so, why not say that the knowable and the knowing are nonexistent?" This means that the existence or non-existence of the external knowable and the internal consciousness is the same; if one does not exist, the other does not exist either. This is no different from what is said in the *Entering the Middle Way*, that in the ultimate truth, the knower and the knowable are non-dual, and in the conventional truth, they both exist, so it is unreasonable to distinguish between existence and non-existence in either of the two truths. Therefore, the view that there is consciousness without an external object is not the master's view. Therefore, he does not acknowledge an ālaya that is different in essence from the mind consciousness. The reason for saying ālaya is generally to refer to the mind that is merely aware and clear, and especially to the mind consciousness. This is to answer the exclusion of the mere mind being established by its own nature, because the mind, although not truly existent, has the nature of being able to act and be acted upon, and is the mind that holds onto life and transmigrates.

Because it has already been proven to be consciousness. Third, the meaning of "the vehicle of consciousness is wind" in this tantra is, as stated in the Vajramala, "wind arises from consciousness," it should be understood as wind arising from appearance. It does not refer to the wind that is the vehicle at the time of appearance itself. The statement that fire arises from wind, water arises from fire, and earth arises from water is because when consciousness enters and connects the intermediate state in the center of semen and blood, all four elements are present, so it does not mean that elements that did not exist before are newly created. What is it then? As stated in the Vajramala, "The solid element and the nature of water, likewise fire and wind, having been taken by consciousness, will be born in the place of the three realms." Therefore, from appearance arises wind that has obtained the special ability to serve as the basis of consciousness, and from that also arises the fire element that has obtained the special ability to serve as the basis of consciousness, and the other two are the same. The way these four arise needs to be understood in conjunction with the occasions of earth dissolving into water, etc., in the stages of dissolution. The statement that aggregates and so on arise from these elements does not mean that these are newly created from nothing, but that those previously obtained are completely perfected in the womb. The way in which nature arises from appearance will be explained later. Second, so how is the order of dissolution or cessation at the time of death for those previously mentioned with the order of arising? First, just as the order of arising is from bottom to top, at the time of death it will dissolve from bottom to top. As stated in the Vajramala, "How it arises, so it abides, it will dissolve from its own nature." And "When the winds completely cease, whoever correctly knows, the sign of the moment of death, correctly gathers together mutually, will dissolve like the order of arising." The order of this is as stated in the Arya Deva's Blessing of Empowerment: "The earth element dissolves into water, water dissolves into fire, fire dissolves into the subtle element, wind dissolves into mind, mind dissolves into mental events, mental events dissolve into ignorance, and it will also go to the clear light, the three realms cease in this way." And as stated in the Lamp Illuminating the Meaning of the Differentiation of Actions and Extremes, it is also in accordance with this.
