Generating the nature of the four emptinesses, if those are not done in consciousness but in the alaya consciousness, it would be too extreme. In the Great Seal Bindu, it is said that the four joys, the three appearances, attainment, and luminosity, so the four joys must also be placed in the same category of alaya consciousness, both before and after. Therefore, the three appearances and attainment are consciousness, and consciousness itself is the root of all defiled and purified dharmas. In this continuum, it is said that it is the three: mind, intellect, and consciousness. Therefore, those who want an alaya consciousness with a different entity from the six consciousnesses, and those who want a mind with a different entity from consciousness as the root of universal purification, the mind as the alaya consciousness, the intellect as the afflicted intellect, the immediately preceding intellect as the two intellects, and the consciousness as the six consciousnesses, are not in agreement. Seeing this meaning, the glorious Chandrakirti explained the alaya consciousness as provisional. The proof of the sutras that explain it in this way, and the refutation of the faults of those who do not accept the alaya consciousness, have already been explained elsewhere according to Chandrakirti's system. Just as the sutras teach the two ways of establishing and not establishing the alaya consciousness, so too, the venerable Maitreya explains their meaning in detail. In the Madhyantavibhaga, the Mahayanasutralamkara, and the Dharmadharmatavibhaga, the alaya consciousness is established, and the side of no external objects is explained. In the Abhisamayalamkara and the Ratnagotravibhaga, the alaya consciousness is not established, and the side of not rejecting external objects is explained. Likewise, in those tantras, there are two sides of establishing and not establishing the alaya consciousness. In the Guhyasamajatantra and its commentary, the treatises of the noble father and sons, the system of the latter side is also accepted. If, according to the Guhyasamaja system, the alaya consciousness and the afflicted intellect, which are different in entity from the six consciousnesses, are not accepted, then in the Vajra Garland, the eight consciousnesses are associated with the eight bodhisattvas, and it says: 'Having drawn in the alaya consciousness, it acts in the predispositions. The predispositions hold the consciousnesses. After the predispositions are combined gradually, they are stained by their own predispositions. At the time of menstruation, they enter the veins of the womb. After that, semen and blood melt into drops.'

If someone thinks that it is unreasonable to say that the consciousness arises from the entry of the alaya consciousness into the mixed sperm and blood bindu, as in "Mixed together, like being intoxicated by alcohol. From the habits of the alaya consciousness, consciousness arises." Then, the alaya and afflicted mind mentioned in this tantra, although the names are the same as those mentioned in other treatises, the meanings are different. In the above of that text, it says: "The mind with afflicted habits." And also when the afflicted mind is combined with loving-kindness, it says: "Having the nature of habitual objects, it appears as consciousness in loving-kindness." Therefore, the habits of affliction are called the afflicted mind. And the meaning of the so-called alaya consciousness entering and acting in the habits is that the habits of affliction grasp the consciousness, that is, the meaning of defilement. The alaya consciousness mentioned here that the consciousness mixed with the afflicted mind enters the womb refers to the consciousness of mind, which is said to be the root of all pure dharmas, not the alaya consciousness mentioned in other treatises, just like the afflicted mind. The arising of consciousness from that is the same as what was previously said about the arising of consciousness from the clear light of death. If someone thinks that it is unreasonable to combine loving-kindness with the afflicted mind, and Kunzhi with the alaya consciousness, because there is no non-dual consciousness that is not included in the six consciousnesses. If that is the case, then since there are no four elements that are not included in the form aggregate and no five senses such as the eyes, it would also be unreasonable to combine the four elements with the four goddesses and the eyes, etc. with Ksitigarbha after the form aggregate is combined with Vairochana. Therefore, it is permissible for pure things to be combined separately even with different opposites. For example, the birthplace of mind is said to be the purity of the Bodhisattva, and the aggregate of consciousness is said to be the purity of the Tathagata. If someone thinks that in the second chapter of the Collection Chapter, in the explanation of the Bodhicitta spoken by Vairochana, it says: "Just as when approaching a magnet, iron will quickly rotate completely. There is no mind there, but it appears as having mind. Similarly, the alaya consciousness, not true but like truth. Whenever it flows and moves, then craving arises. Like trees in the ocean, even without mind they move. Similarly, the alaya consciousness, moves relying on the body."
