The habitual tendencies of afflictions and the obscurations of actual consciousness cannot be exhausted without the practice of ascetic conduct. To exhaust them in this very life also cannot be done without that practice. The seed of afflictions, which is labeled as habitual tendencies, also depends on that for its swift exhaustion. Therefore, it should be understood that two practices must be done for the sake of the union of learning and non-learning. Abandoning disputes about conduct: If, from the time of empowerment, attachment to desirable qualities is used as the path, then the main part of the three practices is limited to that extent. If one thinks, "What need is there to practice conduct separately from these?" then the enhancing conduct of the Completion Stage is for the sake of attaining enlightenment in this life. As it says in the Second Stage: "The distinction of self-nature's appearance, that relies on the fourth (empowerment), whoever does not learn the three (empowerments), that one will not quickly obtain the result. Just as fire resides in wood, it will not appear until it is rubbed. Likewise, enlightenment is free from learning, it will not appear in this very life." It is also said in the Compendium of Practices and the Lamp Illuminating, that by doing practice, supreme accomplishment will be achieved in this very life. The way of this is that when one is able to generate the three wisdoms by the power of perfecting the yoga of winds, if there is no external consort as a companion, one will not be able to generate the wisdom of mind isolation that possesses complete characteristics, so for that purpose one must rely on it. Thus, even if the power of gathering the winds by striking the essential points of the inner body, and the ability of blazing tummo and melting bodhicitta are perfected, for such a person, there is still a clear progression of entering into the realization of that very suchness to the extreme through the method of the consort, through which great differences are obtained from these. Therefore, when the power of the method of striking the essential points of the inner body is perfected, the meaning of practicing the enjoyment of the desirable qualities of the consort, together with the limbs, and meditating on that very suchness, is the practice in the enhancing conduct of the Completion Stage. Just as various distinctions of bliss arise from striking the inner chakras, likewise, from the distinctions of the nature, number, manner of movement, and the differences in the magnitude of the power of the consort, various distinctions of bliss arise for the yogi, and at that time, this causes the realization of meditating on emptiness to become extraordinary.

The reasons for this should also be understood in various ways. If common siddhis cannot be accomplished without engaging in these practices, then it contradicts the statement in the lower three tantras that limitless common siddhis are accomplished through the paths taught therein. Even if it is for the sake of common siddhis, one might wonder how engaging in these practices helps to accomplish them. Although it is not necessary to meditate on emptiness to accomplish many minor common siddhis, it is said that many special siddhis that arise in the lower tantras require meditation on emptiness. Some cannot be accomplished without it, while others are easier to accomplish if one has realization of it. As for accomplishing common siddhis through the generation stage of the Unsurpassed, there are many that could not be accomplished before, as well as the ultimate of common siddhis, and many others that can be accomplished easily in a very short time, such as within seven days, half a month, or one or one and a half months, through the sequence of the three empowerments, as it is said. This is because when the generation stage is perfected, the signs of tangible vision are obtained. Therefore, even by meditating on the letter ཕཊ་(Tibetan, Devanagari: फट, Romanized Sanskrit: phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: phat)at the door of the secret place, one can prevent the emission of seminal fluid. Moreover, by generating bliss from union with a mudra and meditating on emptiness with it, if a special power arises, it becomes easier to accomplish siddhis. Meditating on such bliss and emptiness is also present in the path of the generation stage. If some individuals, when the subtle generation stage is perfected, may also have the wind enter the central channel, and know the key point that external mudra and union go to the life force, and based on that, are able to generate the four joys of the wind dissolving into the central channel, then even if these two arise during the generation stage, if they are established as the path, they must be done as the path of the completion stage, as it is said in the oral instructions about the co-emergent completion stage that arises during the empowerment before practicing the path. Engaging in these practices during the generation stage for the sake of common siddhis is not for the most excellent individuals like jewels, but for some individuals with inferior faculties, such as white lotuses, who are attracted by common siddhis. From which tantra are these practices spoken, and what are their individual names?
