Finished. End of Chapter Eight. Regarding the drill stick and drill seat, etc., it is said in the Teaching Tantra: "From then on, fire may arise, but from each of the drill stick, etc., if examined separately in this way, that fire does not exist anywhere. Echoes in rocks and reflections, illusions and mirages, likewise, the moon in water and dreams, all phenomena are similar to these. Like the sound of a lute, one thing arises from causes and conditions. Likewise, going, coming, and abiding, there is not even a little bit. By the union of non-abiding and abiding, abiding is the nature of space. Therefore, you should understand the vajra's samaya accordingly. Thus, the wise in the meaning of the secret suchness say that all phenomena are without substance, in order to reverse the ripening, the aggregates are said to be the Tathagata." Thus, relying on the examples of illusion, etc., it is said that all phenomena arise from the causes and conditions on which they depend, and that if examined with the reasoning that acts on the meaning of suchness, nothing at all can be found. Furthermore, the four lines beginning with "Protector" explain the reason why the sound of a lute, etc., arises from causes and conditions. Relying on the examples of illusion, etc., it is shown that going, coming, and abiding do not exist as inherently established, not even a little bit. The two lines beginning with "Non-abiding abiding" show that for the yogi who abides in the signless, without abiding in the manner of aiming at signs, abiding is meditating on emptiness like space. Thus, the four lines beginning with "Phenomena" show that those who are skilled in the meaning of the secret suchness of the unsurpassed vehicle meditate on the luminosity of phenomena without substance, that is, without inherent nature, in order to transform the ordinary body of ripening and accomplish the pure illusory body made of wind and mind alone. Furthermore, it is shown that the definitive meaning of the five aggregates being spoken of as the five Tathagatas should also be understood based on this. This clearly shows that the commentary clarifies that the method of accomplishing the vajra body, which is not common with other vehicles, is shown by the drill stick, etc. End of Chapter Nine. Sa.

In the context of "abiding in the supreme and ordinary attainments," if a Completion Stage practitioner practices but does not attain accomplishment, the method of urging the essence will be explained below. Therefore, here we will discuss the situation where a Generation Stage practitioner practices but does not attain accomplishment. Regarding this, the former lamas say that within the Generation Stage, with supreme devotion to the inner and to mantras, it is impossible not to attain accomplishment by performing Vajra recitation while verbally reciting the three syllables (Tibetan: འབྲུ་གསུམ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: त्र्यक्षर, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: tryakṣara, literal Chinese meaning: three syllables). Therefore, there is no need to urge the essence. Thus, if one has perfected single-pointed concentration, and through conceptual yoga has perfected the recitation of mala mantras or name mantras, and the yogi who has become accustomed to any of the three practices and has brought them into experience, even if they practice for seven days with sharp faculties, half a month with medium faculties, or one and a half months with dull faculties, but still do not attain peaceful and other accomplishments, then perform the ritual of increasing the ritual seven times with that very ritual. If that does not work, then urge the essence. For example, from one perspective, the Vairocana yogi should bring single-pointed concentration into experience, recite one hundred thousand mala mantras such as Ruru Sphuru, and perform one hundred thousand fire offerings with that mantra, thereby pleasing and satisfying the deity. After practicing for six months, the Vairocana yogi should, as explained in chapter fourteen, perform the activity of pacifying diseases through the door of the eye goddess. If that does not work, then repeat the ritual itself up to seven times, performing the increasing ritual. If that does not work, then it is said that one should urge the essence. According to our own tradition, the tantra commentary explains two methods of accomplishing activities for Generation Stage practitioners: focusing on the inner and focusing on mantras. As stated in the Avataratantra: "Therefore, especially the yogi who desires to attain accomplishments arising from samadhi must first meditate on the subtle vajra." As it is said, without relying on external recitations and so on, the great accomplishments are attained by the inner samadhi itself, which depends on the perfection of the coarse deity yoga and then the perfection of the subtle yoga. Therefore, if the subtle yoga is not perfected, and one attains accomplishment solely through the perfection of the coarse yoga
