This should be understood accordingly. Therefore, some people of the Marpa lineage say: Meditating on the wheel of the mandala is more important than accumulating merit. For the preliminary practices of the Completion Stage, it is sufficient to meditate on the wisdom body of the deity parents arising from emptiness. There are also those who say that "Abiding well in the Generation Stage" also only explains this much. This is not in accordance with any of the pure treatises of the Holy Lineage. To generate the wisdom body as a preliminary practice for meditating on the Completion Stage is inconsistent with what is said in the Compendium of Practices, that from the Generation Stage up to Mind Isolation, there is no deity body, but rather the wisdom body is generated from the illusory body. In particular, dividing the Generation Stage into two, the Mantra Body and the Wisdom Body, raises doubts as to whether it is in accordance with this tradition. In short, one should know how much Generation Stage meditation is needed to fully arise the realization of the Completion Stage, thereby ripening the continuum. Therefore, it is very important to meditate on the Generation Stage to at least a certain extent. It is also said in the root commentary of the thirteenth chapter that in order to protect the wandering mind of the beginner, it is necessary to meditate on the protective wheel in four sessions. So, how should one learn the stages of the Generation Stage? The stages of learning the Generation Stage are: As stated in the Compendium of Practices: When one is accustomed to the thought of the Buddha Vehicle, one should learn single-pointed concentration. Having become accustomed to this, one should learn discursive yoga. When one is accustomed to this, one abides in the concentration of the beginner. This is what is said. Regarding this, the commentary on the Compendium of Practices says: Learning the Generation Stage with one instant is single-pointed concentration, and learning with many instants is discursive yoga, which is unreasonable. Because the Lamp Illuminating Wisdom says: Generating from the five manifest enlightenments, such as Vairochana, is said to be single-pointed concentration. Some people also rely on the Lamp Illuminating Wisdom in the eleventh chapter, which says: Generating each of Vairochana and so on is single-pointed concentration, and think that first learning one deity is single-pointed concentration, and after becoming accustomed to this, learning the complete sadhana is learning discursive yoga, which is also unreasonable. Because when saying that Vairochana and so on are single-pointed concentration, it is also said to meditate on the increasing mandala. Therefore, the so-called single-pointed concentration does not refer to a single recollection of the deity.

Ma. Simply remembering one deity is not called deity yoga, but rather remembering the deity as one, or remembering oneself and the deity as one. This generally applies to meditating on both gross and subtle deities, but here it is the yoga of the gross deity of the support and the supported. As stated in the Compendium of Practices, just as a person learning archery first learns to shoot at a large target, and then learns to shoot at a small target after becoming proficient, this path should also be learned in the same way. Therefore, when learning the generation stage, one must first generate the samadhi in which the gross appears clearly, up to the main deity of the mandala. After becoming accustomed to this, one learns the yoga of conceptualization, such as meditating on the mandala within a subtle bindu. The yoga of conceptualization or examination is the general name for the generation stage, but here one enters the general name of subtle yoga, as stated in the sixth chapter of the Lamp Illuminating, that practicing subtle yoga is learning the yoga of conceptualization. The samadhi of a beginner is the yoga of the first stage, and abiding in it is to stabilize or reach the ultimate. The generation stage has profound interdependent relationships, each of which is in accordance with the arising of the realizations of the completion stage. The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas bless the continuum, and in all lifetimes one is taken care of by the supreme deity, never separated from the remembrance of the Buddha, and easily perfects the accumulations through offerings and praise, is not hindered by the harm of obstacles, and can accomplish many siddhis such as pacification in this very life. Therefore, no matter what kind of gross or subtle mandala of the support and the supported is visualized, it will appear as desired and not appear as undesired, and it is extremely important to learn to abide in it single-mindedly for a long time until it is accomplished. The basis of learning and the method of application have already been explained in detail in the Explanation of Terms. A summary of the experience and extraction methods for the gross and subtle generation stages has already been explained in the Sadhana, and in detail in the Stages of the Path of Vajradhara. In the context of mind-fixation, the summary of body isolation and speech isolation in the stages of mind-fixation will be shown below. In explaining appearances, the classification of the names of the three appearances comes from the Compendium of Practices.
