Generating the pure view that establishes the meaning of selflessness must be cultivated by relying on those methods. Otherwise, such samadhi cannot transcend existence. As it is said in the Bodhicitta Commentary: Those who do not understand emptiness, are not the basis for liberation. In the prison of the six realms of existence, those who are ignorant will wander in samsara. Therefore, having entered the meditation room, one must meditate on the meaning of selflessness. As it is said in the Samputa Tantra: Then, having stayed in meditation, one should truly contemplate that all dharmas are without self. And also in its later tantra: Again, what is emptiness here? The emptiness of things and persons without substance is emptiness. Therefore, the emptiness to be meditated upon is summarized as the two selflessnesses. And also in the Vajra Heart Essence Continuous Tantra: Having understood one yoga, having gone to a solitary place and striving diligently, one attains Buddhahood in this great purification of sins. By meditating well on the selflessness of dharmas, one comprehends omniscience. Thus, it is said that the yoga of attaining enlightenment by going to a solitary place and striving in one yoga is meditating on the selflessness of all dharmas. There are countless such statements in the tantras. The way to generate such a view in the mindstream is also said to be that it must be generated by examining with the wisdom of individual discrimination based on scripture and reasoning. As it is said in the Bodhicitta Commentary: Bodhisattvas, through the practices of the secret mantra path, generate the nature of aspirational bodhicitta in the aspect of conventional truth, and then generate it through the power of meditating on ultimate bodhicitta. Therefore, its nature should be explained. Having said that, below it, the self of the person accepted by other schools and the self of phenomena accepted by both our own school are refuted by reasoning, and selflessness is established. Therefore, in order to generate it through the power of meditating on ultimate bodhicitta, the way to seek the view of selflessness beforehand is done in this way. In the Guhyasamaja Tantra, among the bodhicittas each spoken by the six Tathagatas, Vairochana says: Separated from all things, aggregates, elements, and sense bases, form

Cutting off self and clinging. The nature of all dharmas is equality of no-self. One's own mind is primordially unborn. It is the nature of emptiness. Quoting what was said in this way, and explaining its meaning, it is called the Explanation of Bodhicitta. Thus, the Protector Nagarjuna, by reasoning, well prohibits the two selves, protects the view of certainty of no-self, and cultivates the ultimate bodhicitta through the gate of secret mantra, which is done by the bodhisattva who practices, as it is said. Therefore, cultivating the view of observation with the wisdom of individual discrimination is the tradition of the Paramita Vehicle, not the tradition of mantra, so those who say so are well prohibited. Also in the Vajra Heart Ornament Tantra, it says: With the mind, divide the six parts of the atom, then divide them into the ten directions, and thereby clarify the meaning of the dharmas, the extremely immaculate mind is pure, the past and future mind, even now there is no object of focus, non-duality has no non-duality, what is called space also has no abode, after thus thoroughly examining, all sentient beings are utterly empty, it is the nature of immaculate yoga, think of your own mind without things. Thus, after examining the atom by dividing it into ten directions, it is said to cultivate emptiness. Bhava Bhadra also, in the Wheel of Vajra Dakini, with the adornment of Madhyamaka, just as after examining the atom by dividing it into ten directions, he ascertained emptiness. The Accomplisher Shri Dhara also said: All things are not true, abandoning the beginning, middle, and end, if you examine the wheel in this way, abandon the noble and correct discriminations, the aggregates and elements are selfless, what is to be cultivated is the noble form of bliss. Thus, separating the parts of time of the beginning, middle, and end, he declared the no-self that is determined. As it is said in the Ratnavali: Just as a moment has an end, so the beginning, middle, and end should be examined, thus because of the self of the three moments, the world does not remain for a moment, the beginning, middle, and end, if thought of like a moment, the beginning, middle, and end, are neither from self nor from other. What is said is similar to this. This principle is also, Yeshe Zhap and other supreme ones, have clearly explained these as they are. As it is said, Yeshe Zhap also, with the accomplishment method Kuntu Zang and the method of self-accomplishment.
