One should strive with all effort to protect the vows, especially the vows of the guru, which are extremely important. Having taken the guru, heroes, and yoginis as witnesses, it is indispensable to protect the vows one has promised. The third part has two aspects: first, to understand the path through listening and contemplation; second, to experience the meaning of what is known through meditation. The first point is: Having received empowerment and properly protected the vows and precepts, what should one do next? The Ornament of Seven Liberations states: "First, with the wisdom of listening, generate hearing in the lineage of words. Then, with the wisdom of contemplation, learn the connection between words and meaning." Therefore, whether one is practicing oneself or guiding others, one must first seek an unmistaken understanding through listening and contemplation. Because if one does not know oneself, one cannot teach others, and one cannot practice without knowing. One practices to the extent that one understands, so if the understanding is mistaken, the practice will be mistaken, and correct practice depends on correct understanding. Similarly, the Difficult Explanation of Hevajra, Garland of Pearls, states: "Without intelligence, there is no hearing; without hearing, there is no contemplation. Without both, there is no yoga, and without yoga, there is no accomplishment." And the Difficult Explanation of the Five Stages, Meaningful Clarity, also states: "Wisdom is what perfects hearing. If both hearing and contemplation are present, then one is well-joined to meditation. From that comes unsurpassed accomplishment." Those with intelligence, having thought in this way, should first strive for the meaning of hearing. Whoever is constantly diligent will easily attain accomplishment. If one has doubts about the words, how will one understand the meaning? The Five Stages also states: "Whoever has respect and faith in the guru, and constantly serves with devotion, is a noble disciple who retains what is heard." Therefore, retaining what is heard is said to be a characteristic of a disciple. And the Samputa Tantra states: "Without knowing the secret truth, even if one practices, nothing will be accomplished." Therefore, if intelligence and effort are great, one should engage in the tantric systems; otherwise, one should engage in the appropriate mantra texts composed by Khedrup Je.

It is necessary to do, and at least for those who can fully explain the key points of the generation stage and the completion stage, it is necessary to listen and contemplate. If you want to be a Vajra Master who teaches mantras and other oral instructions to others, then you must be especially proficient in the two stages and mandala rituals. Regarding the tantras and their commentaries as merely robes to cut off external elaborations, thinking that there are profound oral instructions that are not explained in those scriptures, then one will not respect the ultimate Dharma, and will have great respect for the great tantric scriptures, and hinder them from appearing as oral instructions. This is a great cause for their rapid decline, so it should be abandoned like poison. One should rely on the oral instructions of the noble Lama and strive to make the great scriptures appear as oral instructions. As it is said in the Five Stages: "In the glorious Guhyasamaja Tantra, these are extensively placed here, following the explanatory tantras, to be realized from the mouth of the Lama." Therefore, this says that the ultimate oral instructions, the nature of the five stages, are extensively placed by the Victorious One in the root tantra of the Guhyasamaja, and must be realized from the mouth of the Lama. Therefore, the place where the profound and ultimate things exist is the precious root tantras of the tantras, and understanding it requires a Lama, and the Lama cannot just teach whatever comes to mind, but must follow the explanatory tantras to be able to explain the root tantra. Therefore, the oral instruction is to explain the meaning of the root tantras in accordance with the explanatory tantras, without reversing them, so as to easily generate understanding in the disciple's mind. Therefore, the way of learning from the mouth should also be understood in this way. It is not to be spared from writing in the tantras, not to compile them in them, but to transmit them one by one in the ear. Therefore, just because it is a supreme oral instruction, one should study it for a long time, and when looking at the qualified scriptures such as the tantras, one must generate definite understanding of the meaning of many tantras. If one takes the oral instruction to study the meaning of the tantras, but cannot generate any definite understanding, then it is a sign that there is a problem with the mind or the meaning. Whether it is mantra or philosophical Dharma, before the horse race
