Even if it is not done, that generosity is common, characterized only by taking refuge and generating the mind of enlightenment, which has been said before. So, what is the generosity given to be a teacher? It is the teacher's vows, which are encompassed by the five families. Thus it is said that the generation of the mind with refuge as a preliminary is a common vow, and the vow based on the five families is the teacher's vow or the uncommon vow, and it is also said in the commentaries on the Garland and the Source of Vows. The word "only" in "only generating the mind" does not mean cutting off the conduct of breaking the samayas encompassed by the five families, but only showing the generation of the mind. Common and uncommon are what Don Yod Zhap said, from then on, the action tantras and so on are common vows, and the fourteen root downfalls and six gross sins of the unsurpassable yoga tantra should also be measured. As it is said, all four classes of tantras are common, so they are common vows. The vows to abandon the fourteen root downfalls and so on are of the unsurpassable yoga, which should not be understood only as that, but should be understood as both the yoga tantra, because holding the vows by holding the vows of the five families is also said in the yoga tantra. If the yoga tantra does not accept the precepts of the fourteen root downfalls, then in the Top Tantra it says, "The ten that are other than that are four, they are root downfalls, they are very well said." This is contradictory. Therefore, the teacher's vows are of both the yoga and unsurpassable yoga, and are uncommon for the action and performance tantras. Furthermore, the student's empowerment is a common empowerment because it is given to both those who have taken and those who have not taken the vows of the five families, and the teacher's empowerment is an uncommon empowerment because it is given only to those who have taken the vows of the five families, just as it is said, the first vow is common because it must be taken whether the teacher or the student requests the empowerment, and the second is uncommon because it is given only to those who request the empowerment from the teacher. Also, the first vow is the vow of the Bodhisattva, so it is common to both mantra and paramita, and the second is only for the Vajrayana practitioner, so it is uncommon.

It should also be done, and there are three ways to divide it into common and uncommon. The ritual for conferring the two vows is: The six acharyas say, "I take refuge in the Three Jewels," etc., and consider it to be the ritual for taking the vows of the five lineages. Therefore, "I take refuge in the Three Jewels, I confess all sins separately, I rejoice in the virtues of sentient beings, I hold enlightenment in my mind." The student should be made to recite this three times, and then the vows are conferred. This ritual is described in the second chapter of the Mayajala Tantra and the twelfth chapter of the Tent Tantra. Now, if it is thought that the meaning of the first three lines is refuge, confession, and rejoicing, and is not a ritual for vows, and the fourth line does not clearly state the taking of vows, then how can it be a ritual for vows? It is true that the fourth line, as stated in the treatises of Sgeg Dor and Shantideva, "Generate the mind of enlightenment," is the taking of the generation of the mind, and merely taking the aspirational mind cannot become a vow, so it is the taking of the engaging mind. Taking vows with such short words is for those with extremely sharp faculties. As stated in the Ornament of the Thought of the Able One, "I take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Supreme Assembly, until enlightenment I will never abandon." Therefore, relying on the refuge of the Form Body, Dharma Body, and the Sangha of non-returning Bodhisattvas, one transforms oneself into a perfectly complete Buddha, liberating all this world from suffering and placing it in the state of perfectly complete Buddhahood. In this way, the nature of the Bodhicitta vow is generated briefly by the best of the best faculties. Thus it is said. Therefore, taking the Bodhisattva vow through this method, because the words are short and difficult to understand, the Acharya should use the first three lines as the preliminary for taking the vow, the fourth line clearly explains the way to take the generation of the mind with the conduct of a Bodhisattva. The remainder of these four lines is stated in the twelfth chapter of the Tent Tantra: "I take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Supreme Assembly, until enlightenment I will never abandon. I practice the mind of enlightenment, for the sake of perfectly accomplishing the benefit of myself and others. I generate the supreme mind of enlightenment, Emaho! All sentient beings."
