Thus, it shows the absence of sinking and agitation. It is said to be unwavering clarity. That is said. Among them, unwavering is another name for immovability. This also states that the yogi with the agitation of wisdom, due to the habituation of discriminating thoughts that distinguish phenomena, the nature of the mind's agitation not being pacified, prevents agitation. Therefore, it is said that the unwavering mind is the peace that approaches the path. Thus, quoting the scriptures that can be known, it is said that excessive examination becomes a fault, so one should practice abiding meditation. Here, it is said that the nature of agitation is the wisdom of distinguishing phenomena, which means that if one examines too much, agitation will eventually arise, but how can that wisdom itself be agitation? Also, it is said in the same text that clarity is the first, another name for being free from faults such as dullness. This also states that the yogi who only practices calm abiding, even when distinguishing phenomena, is too focused, so-called the nature of the mind sinking, sinking becomes an unfavorable aspect of distinguishing phenomena, which is prevented. As it is said, this also means that if one abides too much, dullness and sinking will eventually arise, becoming an unfavorable aspect of distinguishing phenomena, but it does not show that calm abiding itself is sinking and dullness. In accordance with this, it is also said in the last chapter of the Stages of Meditation: Furthermore, when one cultivates insight and wisdom becomes extremely strong, then because calm abiding is weak, like a lamp placed in the wind, the agitation of the mind will prevent one from seeing it very clearly. Therefore, at that time, one should cultivate calm abiding. If the aspect of calm abiding is strong, one will not be able to see it very clearly, like a person covered by sleep. Therefore, at that time, one should also cultivate wisdom. When two yoked oxen are connected and move forward together, when the two move forward together in this way, one should remain without manifest activity until the body and mind are harmed. Thus, whichever aspect of calm abiding and insight is stronger, one should cultivate the other more, and after making the two equal, one should cultivate them. If the aspect of calm abiding is strong and calm abiding and insight are not equal, then one should not grasp it as becoming a non-conceptual meditation.

Therefore, before mastering the measure of refutation by reason, whatever is grasped with the thought "this is it" is all grasping at reality, and therefore all of these are refuted in the Madhyamaka treatises. Considering this, the view of the Chinese Chan masters, who hold that all discriminating observation and meditation are obstacles to attaining Buddhahood, should not be adopted. The root and commentary of the Later Contemplation also clearly state this, saying in the commentary: "Thus, my suchness is of the nature of experiencing without parts, without object, without form, without appearance, unmoving, and clear, but since it is held that the path of discrimination is not abandoned, it is said that 'the observation of wisdom is in front.' Wisdom is prajna. Its entering into its own object is observation, that is, the observation of wisdom. The observation of wisdom is the characteristic of the appearance of prajna, that is, the abiding in front of my suchness, which is the observation of wisdom in front. Therefore, it will say this: Although the nature of self-awareness is non-discriminating, the appearance of prajna engages in observation in front." Thus, it is proven that discriminating wisdom cannot be abandoned even when meditating on suchness. In short, below the dhyana of the Hearers, practice shamatha, and from the end of the Hearers, practice vipassana, and there, if there is too much observation of discriminating wisdom, it will destroy the previous state of abiding, so alternate between observation and abiding meditation, thereby attaining the union of shamatha and vipassana. In order to accomplish limitless and extraordinary siddhis, as stated in the Action Tantra, it is necessary to first engage in the meditation of the four branches of recitation and the three samadhis of suchness. However, it is not necessarily necessary to do so in order to accomplish many minor siddhis. Fourth, in the Well-Accomplished it says: The most excellent activities are accomplished by special recitation. Performing approach beforehand will also accomplish ordinary activities. Also, as stated in the Forceful One: According to the ritual, first recite a hundred thousand times, then begin to practice the mantra. In this way, siddhis will be quickly attained, and the mantra ritual will not be tiring for a long time. Also, as stated in the Later Contemplation: The vidya-mantra itself does not
