Since it has been let go, it is appropriate to call those that have been let go as emitting sound. All of those, because the meaning of meditation focused on suchness is not apparent, it is said to let go at that time. Here, there are three samadhis to be cultivated: focusing on the body of the deity, focusing on the mantra of the deity's speech, and focusing on the very nature of the deity's mind. The first is very coarse, it is a very rough samadhi. The second is finer than that, and the third is the finest, so the order is so certain, because the coarse ones all need to be cultivated on the cause. For this, it is first necessary to accumulate the two conditions of making the deity's body clear and staying for a long time, so it is necessary to accomplish clear appearance through meditation in various ways. Because clear appearance arises from repeatedly contemplating the image to be familiarized with, just like familiarizing with liking and fear. If you do not focus on one point, even if a clear appearance arises, it will not stay on the same object as desired, so it is necessary to stay with a one-pointed samadhi, as mentioned before. The way to obtain a workable mind through such a method is as stated in the fifth chapter of 'Good Arm': 'Look at the tip of the nose and abandon conceptual thoughts, whenever you move, the appearance does not move. At that time, you will obtain an unclear state, and the mind will definitely become workable.' As it is said, the place where the image cannot be moved even if it is shaken needs to be free from sinking, because the place where the power of prayer has not yet emerged is not contrary to sinking. Before recitation, it is very important to cultivate a stable samadhi focused on the deity, because it is said there: 'For a person with a one-pointed mind, great joy arises from the mind, joy makes the body very supple, a supple body becomes fortunate to have happiness, a happy body, a one-pointed mind and samadhi, at that time recitation becomes unobstructed.' So it is said. The method of cultivating a one-pointed samadhi without error, and the method of initially generating mental pliancy from cultivation, and the method of generating physical pliancy based on it, and after that, the characteristics of calm abiding are accomplished, and the methods of not arising from conforming to calm abiding before calm abiding, these have already been explained in the order of the common path of the Great Vehicle, so I will not elaborate.

So it is. In the context of the four tantras, the time when one initially attains the characteristics is generally the time when one is led into deity yoga. If one does not distinguish between the characteristics of calm abiding and what is in accordance with calm abiding, and if one does not carefully distinguish the timing of attaining the characteristics of calm abiding as it appears in the major treatises, then one will not know the extent to which one needs to be led when initially leading into deity yoga. Thus, when the samadhi focused on the body is stable, one should abandon it and train in the samadhi focused on the mantra of speech. Abandoning means holding the mind on the body; training means abandoning that and holding the mind on another object. From then on, it is not to prevent the appearance of the deity's clarity, because it is often said to focus on the deity during the three recitations, the fire position, and the sound position. There are three ways to focus on the mantra, of which focusing on the gross is to focus on the shape or sound of the letters and to do a silent recitation, that is, the appearance of the letters arranged on the moon, and the appearance of the melody, without the mind wandering elsewhere, holding it to the extent that one hears oneself reciting. Like that, when the yoga of reciting the mantra in the mouth and the object of focus in the mind, without wandering elsewhere, is stable, one should abandon that kind of training and train in the subtle, that is, without reciting the mantra in the mouth, reciting only with the mind, and holding the mind on either the shape of the letters or the appearance of the melody, without wandering elsewhere, both should be practiced until they become stable. When that is stable, one should also abandon that and train in the two meditations of the nature of sound that are extremely subtle, that is, one's own mind, realizing the selflessness of oneself, that itself as the apprehended aspect, the mind is held on the appearance of the sound of the mantra and the shape of the burning fire. When the previously mentioned signs are found and cultivated and become stable, one should also abandon that, and one's own mind, as the apprehended aspect, clearly appears as the shape of the melody of the mantra, and the grasping aspect does not wander elsewhere, but remains on the string of the mantra's sound, one should train in the yoga of uniting the two inseparably, and this stability itself is the meaning of bestowing the sound position yoga. Those two are like, for example, when one's own mind is focused on the object with one-pointedness, the apprehended aspect, the appearance of the deity's face, hands, and so on, appears simultaneously.
