Instead of doing other things, one should focus on the special form. In the secret teachings of the Buddha, even meditating on emptiness is referred to as the "ultimate deity," using the term "deity." However, here, the very form of the deity is divided into two, and this is done because it is the key to accomplishing any siddhi. The Lamp Clearly Explaining also states that this passage shows the deity's body of the two stages. Furthermore, there is also a division into worldly and transworldly yogas. The Manifestation of Perfect Enlightenment states: "Through the union of outer and inner, I have explained the four limbs. That is also for worldly ones, those with characteristics are unsurpassed. Subduing with words of re-collection, the mind that follows the deity, the best of silent recitation, is taught to those with characteristics. The transworldly of the mind is said to be like that, abandoning re-collection and so forth. Unifying with the deity and, holding non-difference, the mind makes the nature inseparable. It is not to do other things." It is said that the transworldly here also refers to the uncontaminated of the noble lineage, which is the aspect of non-self without intention, and is the yoga that is definitely grasped. In the Stages of the Path of Fortunate Vajra, it says: Among them, some are: the action tantra, the performance tantra, and the yoga tantra, which speak of the means of practice with characteristics, and the means of practice without characteristics. The great yogi says that the generation stage and the completion stage are the path itself. Thus, the tradition of the two stages of unsurpassed yoga, and the explanation of the two terms of yoga with and without characteristics in the lower tantra divisions, are in accordance with this tantra and are very excellent, the reasons for which will be explained below. The second part has two divisions: Explaining yoga with characteristics and explaining yoga without characteristics. The first part has two divisions: Recitation of the outer four limbs and recitation of the inner four limbs. The first part is: Now, just as there are many who practice deity visualization and recitation based on the action tantra, there are not many who practice deity visualization and recitation based on the performance tantra. And if one knows the way to generate the tantras of yoga with and without characteristics, then the limbs of the path seem to be easy. Therefore, first protect oneself and the place, offer the gathering feast, etc., and offer praise to the deity.

Other practices, such as praise, will not be discussed here. Instead, the stages of practice for dual yoga, including recitation, will be explained. As the first branch of the four-branched base, the method for meditating on emptiness before generating oneself as the deity is as follows: One's own aggregates, which rely on the great elements, are in ultimate truth like space and in conventional truth like reflections, as understood by the Buddhas. There is nothing superior to this, and one should realize it as they have seen it. In this way, both oneself and the deity to be meditated upon lack inherently existent self-nature, because they arise dependently, like reflections. Think in this way and ascertain that both oneself and the deity lack self-nature. Then, develop a firm conviction that the emptiness of self-nature of both oneself and the deity is inseparable, cultivate this repeatedly, and then it is necessary to generate the deity, as it is said in the Manifestation of Enlightenment: "Bodhisattvas, through the door of mantra, practice the conduct of bodhisattvas, thus generating the form of the body from the body." There is nothing superior to the perfectly complete Buddha, just as my eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind belong to the four great elements, and these are also empty of self-nature, merely summarized by name, similar to and like space, ungraspable, arising from cause and action, like reflections. Thus, the Tathagatas manifest complete enlightenment. These also arise interdependently, continuously connected, and whatever arises dependently appears like a reflection. Therefore, because of arising interdependently, whatever the deity is, that is what I am; what I am, that is what the deity is. Thus, the body, through the form of the body, is generated as the body of the deity. It is clearly stated that before practicing any deity in the four tantra classes, such a method of meditating on emptiness is necessary. If one does not ascertain it with view, merely reciting mantras such as " स्वाभाव (藏文:སྭ་བྷཱ་བ་,梵文天城体:स्वभाव,梵文罗马拟音:svabhāva,汉语字面意思:self-nature)" to gather appearances is meaningless. The Abridged Commentary also says: The aggregates, etc., are ascertained as lacking self-nature through reasoning that separates one and many, and then comes the deity's...
