and appearance, the stage of complete purification of the sound called mind and words, by the order of complete abandonment, that Dharmakaya will manifest. Therefore, if you meditate on the limit of sound, the nature of Dharmadhatu, it will grant liberation, so it is said. So it is. Among them, Vidyā-mantra is only a symbol, so also grasp the secret mantra, the lords of these two are those who have the form of the goddess and the god to be practiced by oneself. Its limbs are those parts or stages related to those deities, and abandoning it is the gradual abandonment of those stages. Among them, the first of the four is that, depending on life force, asceticism, and meditation, etc., the mantra practitioner himself appears as a limb of his own deity, that is, he himself appears as the body of the deity. The second is the limb called sound, which is the stage of whispering the mantra. The third is the limb of mind, which is the stage of reciting the mantra with the mind. The fourth is the complete purification of the two words of whispering and mental recitation, that is, the meditation of the fire position and the sound position separated from the two, the image of the mantra sound appears in the mind. The way to abandon them is to stabilize the former and then move to the latter, as it is said in the commentary: For those who want to be liberated, the order of gradual abandonment is like this, like re-collecting, asceticism, and meditation, and after life and effort, etc., focusing on the image of one's own deity, stabilize the extremely inflated samadhi, and focusing on the sound of the secret mantra recited in a whisper, completely abandon focusing on the extremely coarse, and then stabilize the coarse samadhi. That which focuses on the coarse is also completely abandoned by the subtle samadhi of the mind's sound. That also after completely abandoning it, abide in the extremely subtle samadhi of the secret mantra's discrimination. That also completely abandoned, those who want to be liberated should diligently practice the samadhi focused on the Dharmakaya. So it is said. In this way, after gradually abandoning the four limbs, if you meditate on emptiness, the Buddhas know the order of granting liberation, or, again, calling out, O Lord of Vidyā-mantra, abandoning those limbs, then the mantra

If we follow the latter of the two explanations, "One who knows the meaning of the ground will become a king," then it agrees with the sutra's main point that "the end of sound bestows liberation." If it is also necessary to abandon focusing on the deity's form, then what is the meaning of explaining "the end of sound" as merely emitting sound? Abandoning the first branch is: abandoning the place of the mantra's sound, because the mantra practitioner who appears as a deity is the one who recites the mantra. Abandoning the middle two branches is: abandoning the manifest fabrication of the mantra's sound, and abandoning the last branch is: abandoning the nature of the mantra's sound, so abandoning these can be called abandoning sound. All of these are said to be abandoned at that time because the meaning of meditation focusing on suchness does not appear. Here, there are three samadhis to be generated: focusing on the deity's form, focusing on the deity's speech mantra, and focusing on the deity's mind, which is suchness itself. The first is the most coarse, it is a very coarse samadhi. The second is more subtle than that, and the third is the most subtle, so the order is definite because the coarse ones must be generated on the basis. Therefore, first, it is necessary to generate the collection of the clear appearance of the deity's form and abiding in it for a long time, and the clear appearance must be accomplished through meditation with various aspects, because a clear appearance arises from repeatedly contemplating the habitual aspects, just like being accustomed to joy and fear. If one does not focus on one point, even if a clear appearance arises, one cannot abide on one object as desired, so one must abide with one-pointed samadhi, as explained before. The way to attain a workable mind through such means is as stated in the fifth chapter of the Strong Arm: "Looking at the tip of the nose, abandon all discriminations, When it moves, the form does not waver, At that time, one obtains the non-manifest abode, The mind will definitely become workable." As it says, the place of abiding where the form cannot be moved even if it is shaken needs to be free from sinking, because the place of abiding where the power of supplication has not emerged is not contrary to sinking. Before recitation, it is extremely important to accomplish a stable samadhi focusing on the deity, because it says there: "For a person with a one-pointed mind, Great joy arises from the mind, Joy
