Recite focusing on the intonation of the mantra. That is, it is not like listening to someone else reciting a mantra, but when you recite it yourself, you focus on the sound of that mantra. Focusing on the intonation of the mantra, in this way, one can do a soft recitation or a whispered recitation. It is said in the explanation that when controlling the breath, one cannot do a whispered recitation. These two, controlling the breath and reciting, can also be combined with the previous two in the explanation. So, if each focus has two recitations, which should be done first? First, one should do a whispered recitation, and when the mind is not distracted, then control the breath and do a mental recitation, that is, one should proceed from coarse to fine. The first is to focus on the deity, the moon, and the mantra garland, so there are three focuses; the middle one is to focus on the moon and the mantra garland, so there are two focuses; the last one is to focus only on the sound, so there is one focus, as explained in the commentary, and one person should do all three in sequence. Supreme Bodhi says that apart from reciting the mantra on the moon in one's own heart and in front, there is no other explanation, but this is like the Secret Buddha (sangs rgyas gsang ba) explaining the meaning of the tantra in detail. Other authors of sadhanas based on the Action Tantra also say that the focus is on the rays of light emanating from the mantra garland, offering to the Buddhas, and benefiting sentient beings. Regarding how to recite, the fifth chapter of Yungdrung says: When reciting, do not be too fast or too slow, do not make the sound too loud or too soft, do not speak, and do not be distracted, do not bend, do not lengthen, and do not omit syllables. And, laziness, desire, and unwholesome thoughts, wherever they wander, should be quickly withdrawn from there and properly focused on the letters of the secret mantra. And, as quoted earlier from the Achievement Chapter, when reciting, other excellent focuses other than the focus on the deity, etc., should not be kept in mind. Recite slowly for pacification, and recite loudly enough for others to hear for increase and subjugation. When the mantra's rosary reaches the beginning and the end, prostrate to the Buddhas, and when the rosary is finished, look with your eyes at the image or stupa, or their base.

The duration of recitation is one mel-tse period in the morning, half a mel-tse period each at dusk and dawn, and half, one-third, or one-quarter of a period at noon, or recite a little. It is said that for those recitations done during the day, the fire offering should be done at night, and for those recitations done at night, the fire offering should be done during the day. It is best to perform the fire offering at the end of the recitation. Regarding the number of recitations, the Legdrub says: For numbers less than fifteen, generally, the number of syllables there are, recite that many hundred thousands of times. For thirty-two syllables, it is said to recite three hundred thousand times. Therefore, for many syllables, first perform a hundred thousand approaches. It is said that other tantras do not require many main deities and retinues. Thirdly, if during the recitation one becomes sleepy, stumbles over words, drools, passes gas, or needs to urinate or defecate, one should immediately put down the mala, perform the appropriate restraints, and then, having made close contact, begin again from the beginning of the count. That is, these do not count towards the number of interrupted recitations. Furthermore, if one carelessly recites the mantra of another deity, one should pray with remorse and repeat the recitation. Also, if one is disturbed by obstacles, afflicted by illness, lax, careless, physically or mentally weary, has exceeded the time prescribed in the ritual, has recited without vows or in an unclean state, or has had a bad dream at night and recites without reciting the hundred-syllable mantra of one's lineage lord during the day, these do not count towards the number of recitations, as stated in the Legdrub. Moreover, it is said there that if one recites half in one place and half in another, even if the entire recitation is completed, all of that is meaningless. The times when the recitation ritual exceeds the proper time and the improper times are: From when half of the sun's disc has risen until the length of one person's shadow is the morning time. Noon is the time of eight or nine o'clock. From when one person's shadow remains until half of the sun's disc has set is the afternoon time, these are the daytime times. From when half of the sun's disc has set until midnight is the time to begin the evening. From half of dawn until half of the sun's disc has risen
