That is because of the arising of clear appearance to all coarse things. After completing the practice of the generation stage of the deity, one should then practice meditation, and if one becomes weary from meditation, one should recite mantras. Many Indian treatises say this, but reliable sources have not clearly explained which of the two, cultivating through analytical meditation with individual examination and focusing the mind single-pointedly on the deity's form, is reliable. However, at these times, it is still necessary to accomplish the clear appearance of the deity, so repeatedly clarifying the deity through analytical meditation with individual examination is most important. Regarding this, whether it is initially performing the generation stage or completing the practice of the generation stage before reciting mantras, in both cases, after clearly establishing the appearance of both the support and the supported, it is also necessary to generate a sense of pride, thinking, "That is the real thing," so both should be done. These times, considering the pure land, retinue, and teacher, etc., of the fruition stage as the path of pride, and it is said to be the supreme method of recollecting the Buddha. Therefore, it is not just remembering the body color, face, hands, etc., of Vairochana and Akshobhya, etc., or merely generating that kind of pride, but one must have faith in the actual Buddha who has exhausted all obscurations and attained mastery over all qualities. Having become accustomed to this, both the special appearance and pride need to arise spontaneously, like reciting a text after becoming accustomed to it. As it is said in the Garland of Pearls: "Accomplishment is the stability of mind, that is, the appearance of oneself as the form of the deity, and the pride of that, arising spontaneously in oneself day by day, that is what is attained." Therefore, by meditating on both, if one gains the ability to prevent ordinary appearances from the beginning to the end of each long session, by the power of transforming into special appearance and pride, then from that point on, one should maintain the stability of mind, which is said when there are no sudden adverse conditions for body and mind. Regarding this, it is not necessary to continuously think, "That is my deity," but it is sufficient if the non-artificial pride initially generated can prevent ordinary pride. For example, when someone is possessed by a non-human, even if there is no thought of "I am that non-human," even if the mind wanders elsewhere, as long as that state has not disappeared, the idea of "I am still the same person as before" does not arise. As for how long it lasts

If one practices, the deities appear clearly visible, as it is said in the commentary on the collected essence: "Thus, until the great mandala of the Vajradhatu becomes visibly manifest, one should practice every day. Or, with the three samadhis as a preliminary, one should practice for six months or a year." It is said, and in other instances concerning the duration of practice, it has not been said to be longer than a year, so one should understand well the method of practice. Abiding in vows and commitments, if one strives with great diligence without interruption, it will not take too long, and the deities of the mandala will appear completely. Just as with rubbing wood to make fire, if one does not do it vigorously and for a long time, but takes many breaks in between, just as fire cannot be produced, it must be done continuously, as Palden Dpawo said: "From the Compendium of Perfections: With uninterrupted yoga, strive to accomplish meditation. If one rests again and again, just as fire cannot be produced by rubbing wood, so it is with the method of yoga, do not give up until you have attained the distinction." Thus it is said. The third has two parts: the method of meditating on bindus in the first two stages, and the method of meditating on bindus in the third stage. First, in the first stage, if one repeatedly focuses on the coarse and subtle mandalas of the support and the supported, becoming accustomed to it, and generating a clear appearance, that is sufficient, and there is no need to cultivate shamatha. Because in the second stage, there are many methods for stabilizing the samadhi of mind-abiding through yogas such as the channels, winds, and tummo. Furthermore, if one cultivates shamatha here, it must be done through yogas such as meditating on bindus, then these are also said in authoritative texts such as the Compendium and the Sadhana Kunzang to be done before reciting under the supreme mandala, therefore it is said to be done mixed with analytical meditation 2 of repeatedly focusing on the aspects. Because these do not accomplish shamatha, as it was said before in the Stages of Meditation and the commentary on the Later Meditation, even if one obtains shamatha with characteristics, if there is too much analytical meditation, the part of abiding will decrease, so it is said to cultivate shamatha at that time, if in the case of not having obtained shamatha
