Thus, the preliminary practices have been done. There are those who claim that the three, such as the feet of the Victorious One, are prior to the preliminary practices, so it appears here as well. It should be examined whether this is a mistake in the text. It is said that those who desire to attain Buddhahood, abandoning these stages of generation and conduct, only wish to meditate on the stage of completion. I wonder what reason they see for this. Although there is no real reason, it is based on what appears to be reasoning and not understanding the intent of the scriptures, but only relying on words. The reasoning is as follows: The truly perfect Buddha to be attained is non-dual wisdom, non-conceptual. Therefore, the means to attain it should also be to meditate on non-conceptuality. By meditating on the stages of generation and so on, which are conceptual, it cannot be attained, because conceptuality must be abandoned, and from familiarizing oneself with conceptuality, only a conceptual result that is in accordance with oneself arises. That is how it is thought. If so, it is said that the Teacher's teaching to practice the stages of generation and conduct is unreasonable. They say: The disciples to whom these teachings are given are worldly people who are frightened when the meaning of profound emptiness is explained. Therefore, it is taught as a means to temporarily gather disciples. Among them, the necessity of teaching the conduct aspect is to prevent the nihilistic view of slandering the causes and effects of all defilements and purifications. The necessity of teaching the stage of generation is to accomplish results such as pacification and the attainment of swords and pills through the interdependent connection of the yoga of deities, mantra recitation, fire offerings, and substances. Therefore, the antidote to all impurities is the realization of emptiness, which is free from all elaborations. If a yogi only familiarizes himself with that, then the familiarization will increase infinitely, and thus he will attain the supreme result. Therefore, one should only meditate on that. What is the use of meditating on other things? The scripture also says, in the Fifty Verses of Vajra Dakini: "Whoever knows the sounds of treatises, As made by sages and others, The deeds of deceiving men, Which cause their own minds to enter. Following after the tantras, They diligently arouse suffering. Therefore, mandalas and so on,"

Devoting oneself to the rituals of mime is an outsider path that is separate from liberation, and only causes suffering for beings. As it says in the fourth section of the second chapter of the 'Joint Treatise': What can be done with meditation and vows, body image and pride, through mantras and mudras, in order to generate common accomplishments? Through the yoga of a deity according to one's own desire, reaching the ultimate state of Buddhahood, if the characteristics of what is to be expressed are manifested, the three realms will become like the sky. It is said, and it is evident that it relies on similar quotations. The former is quoted in the 'Commentary on the Source of Discipline' by those who obstruct the arising stage as a source of knowledge. Furthermore, let alone achieving Buddhahood through the arising stage, even samadhi cannot be achieved, because this causes the mind to be disturbed by many conceptual thoughts, and samadhi has the characteristic of being one-pointed. Through meditation, it may become slightly clearer, but like the appearance of a desired object to a lustful person, it will only last for a moment and will not be long-lasting. Investigating yoga is even more false than investigating worldly dharmas, like practicing with a skeleton. Therefore, because it is an illusion, it is not beneficial for achieving the supreme, this is the former view stated by Ratnarakshita. On this, there are also two views: one that achieving the supreme does not require the arising stage at all, and another that it is not needed for those with sharp faculties, but is needed for those with dull faculties. The latter is divided into two: the actual refutation, and the rebuttal of the refutation. The first view is: the wisdom that realizes the suchness that is free from all elaborations, although it is the proximate cause of the non-dual wisdom of the Buddha, if one is only accustomed to this, no matter how long one strives, one will not be able to reach the ultimate, because it lacks the limbs of skillful means. For example, the seed is the proximate cause of the sprout, but if it lacks the conditions of water, fertilizer, etc., it cannot produce a sprout. Therefore, the wisdom that realizes emptiness reaching the ultimate depends on skillful means, and skillful means reaching the ultimate depends on wisdom, this is the common view of Mahayana practitioners, and especially the view of the mantra vehicle, which teaches the path that has the form of both of these as the cause of the two bodies.
