Regarding the meaning of "Dingwa," and similarly for the meaning of a pillow, a single blade of kusha grass is produced from the letter དྷཱིཿ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, dhīḥ, wisdom), and it is recited with that and a coil. It is given with the mantra "ༀ་བཛྲ་ཏཱིཀྵཱ་བ་" (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, oṃ vajratīkṣāva, Om Vajra Tikshava). From the Vinaya Source, it is said: "The letter དྷཱིཿ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, dhīḥ, wisdom) is for reciting mantras, that kusha grass should be well given." Mituk Zlawe considers both kusha grasses to have arisen from དྷཱིཿ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, dhīḥ, wisdom). Because it is said that the former is many, the latter should be few. Tibetans give the larger one to the right and the smaller one to the left, but Damtsik Dorje considers that it should be given to the left hand. However, in the Mayajala Sutra, it says: "Give the toothbrush and kusha grass in the palm of the hand." Therefore, both of these should be given in the middle of the joined palms. Vidyapata says that this is so that auspicious dreams are not confused. Then, a red thread that arises from ཧཱུཾ་ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, hūṃ, Hum) is measured to be three times the student's body length, coiled seven times while reciting, and tied with three or six knots. These are then tied on the right arm, or in other lineages, it is said on the left arm. Reciting "ༀ་བུདྡྷ་མཻ་ཏྲི་རཀྵ་རཀྵ་སརྦཱན་སྭཱཧཱ་" (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, oṃ buddha maitri rakṣa rakṣa sarvān svāhā, Om Buddha Maitri Raksha Raksha Sarvan Svaha), one binds oneself and protects oneself well. A thread that is three times the body length becomes one-third of the body, and from that, there are six or three knots, and the right or left arm is optional. The Abhisambodhi of Vairochana says to tie it on the left, and the Mayajala Sutra says to tie it on the right, while Nagarjuna, Lavapa, and Mituk Zlawe, among many others, tie it on the right and make three knots. The Vajramala Tantra says that a thread one cubit and four fingers long, with three vajra knots, should be wrapped around the left arm three times. Separating right and left based on male and female, and how to do it at the knots, etc., what Tibetans do is not seen in the mandala rituals. Regarding spinning the thread, Nagarjuna and Zungjuk Salwa explain that it should be done by a girl. Prajna Shri desires that the five-colored thread be visualized as a vajra thread arising from ཧཱུཾ་ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, hūṃ, Hum), but this is not stated by authoritative ones. The fifth (verse): In the world, all-knowing ones, sometimes appear or do not appear, like the udumbara flower, which appears only once in a hundred paths. Who can do incomparable good for sentient beings, and prevent them from falling into sorrow? The emergence of the practice of secret mantra is even rarer than that. In countless eons, sin...
