May it abide here. May it also be recorded here. If you see something in accordance with the Dharma, please cherish great diligence in your heart through praise. In short, may all three levels, high, middle, and low, bear great responsibility and uphold the foundation of this code as the common law of the Sangha. May all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and assemblies of disciples, together with all those who carry out the orders, accomplish these desired goals without hindrance and with ease. For the basis of what should be learned, not just a partial aspect, but the entirety of the essential points of the teachings, and for the method of learning, not just a partial aspect, but through all three aspects of listening, contemplation, and meditation, this code is established. May it flourish and spread in all directions from all aspects and endure for a long time. May the monasteries flourish through reading and recitation and remain in good condition. May the Sangha always be in harmony, and may the affairs of the Sangha also be accomplished. May the monks who desire the precepts obtain solitary places, completely abandon all distractions, and may their minds become workable and meditative. On the fourth day of the waxing moon of the fifth month of the Year of the Bird, at the solitary place of Lhashol (ལྷ་ཞོལ་) of the Lord of Snow Mountains, Öde Gungyal (འོ་དེ་གུང་རྒྱལ་), in Jampa Ling (བྱམས་པ་གླིང་), the great spiritual friend, the glorious Lozang Drakpa (བློ་བཟང་གྲགས་པ་) (Tsongkhapa), gave instructions, and those cherished by the abbot Tenpa Rinpoche (བསྟན་པ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་), who upholds the Vinaya and holds the Tripitaka, first established this Sangha code. Homage to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! In the small charter enacted by the Sangha residing in Jampa Ling (བྱམས་པ་གླིང་) as a common code, during the transition between summer and winter, due to internal factors: confessing transgressions, for internal affairs, the manager of the Sangha and the attendants, and the lay practitioners who handle public affairs, residing in separate rooms of the same kitchen, gathering for necessities, and for matters in accordance with the Dharma, having to go outside unavoidably, not going to each other's rooms or outside the monastery except on Dharma days, and even when there is a reason to go outside, asking the manager of the Sangha and going out discreetly. It is forbidden to violate these rules, otherwise it will be reported to the Sangha.

Now it is decreed that to correct mistakes, one must prostrate one hundred times. When newly requesting instructions, if one goes outside the monastery without consulting the appropriate person, it is decreed that the remainder of those instructions will not be given. If influenced by external circumstances, all those who arrive suddenly must be examined by the appointed layperson. If they are sent to the high retreat without examination, the offense must be announced, and the layperson must be made to prostrate twenty-one times. Unless there is a special need, one should not be sent inside the high retreat. If there is a definite reason to meet, the layperson must inform them, and it is decreed that they meet outside the retreat. Women should not be kept overnight in the middle of the monastery, and they should not be sent to the middle of the monastery unless there is a need for Dharma. Selling small items such as grass and wood is prohibited, and beggars should not be sent to the middle of the monastery. If they are sent, the punishment will be the same as before, and it is decreed that the layperson collect the food and deliver it outside the retreat. If a dog theft occurs in the middle of the monastery, the monastery where the incident occurred is responsible for dealing with it outside the retreat. Measures such as bushels and scales must be returned to the public area immediately after use. Roads should not be built on cultivated fields, and if livestock eat crops, the value of the loss must be compensated to the field owner. On riverbanks and shores that can be utilized, and in all places where trees are needed, one should not discard saliva, mucus, unclean things, etc., in the monastic gardens of the Sangha.
