The Bodhisattva Mahasattva Dharma-utpatti thought to himself: 'Wise men will easily understand the profound meaning through examples, so I should explain that meaning through many examples.' Thinking thus, he first wished to show that the Tathagatas have no coming and going by the example of a mirage. With a very clear and smiling face, he spoke these words: The streams of creeping things are freed from the bonds of fetters. The trees are clothed in the green garments of new leaves. Adorned with the ornaments of many beautiful flowers. When the cuckoo proclaims its intoxicating cries. The sky also casts off its garment of clouds. The friend of the lotus also descends at noon. At that time, the shimmering mirage. Is seen by some unwise men. They cling to it, but in vain they weary themselves. With a mind of false conception, they attribute water to what is not. Then, from which entrance does it first come? And where will it finally flow? Therefore, if one examines the manner of coming and going. Who among the wise will find its coming and going? He also wished to show the profound meaning that is difficult to understand by the example of illusion. The great being spoke these words with a clear voice: Some skilled illusionists. With their hair standing on end and their eyes red. Wagging their tongues like flashing red lightning. Uttering terrifying sounds, holding sharp weapons. Transforming into many terrifying servants of Yama. They tear open the bellies of some people. Adorn their necks with the noose of illusion. Their bodies are covered with blood. Holding heads in their hands, they lick the brains. When children see these things, they cover their faces with tears and are forced to kneel. Their hearts also seem to fall out. They flee, seized by unprecedented fear, However, those wise men who understand the nature of things. How could they be afraid of these things? The very source of fear is also non-existent. Then, wishing to explain this profound state by the example of a dream, that supreme speaker again said: The city of the senses, the sun that illuminates the five objects, sets. The pupils of the eyes are covered by the skin of lotus petals. The mind-being is deprived of the opportunity to wander in the realms. The mind's

When the earth is held down by the darkness of sleep, the assembly of wondrous victors is seen, but upon awakening, they disappear. However, if the victors in dreams are completely pacified in their essence, who would fixate on the difference between their arising and ceasing? Therefore, son of lineage, understand that the Thus-gone Ones neither come nor go in the same way as the example. Thus, like an illusory person, Yama, mirage water, like victors in a dream, by realizing that all phenomena are free from dependence, one does not grasp the coming and going of the Able Ones. How are the Sugatas grasped as empty? Because they are emptiness, there is no arising or ceasing. In the appearance of non-existence in confused grasping, whose realization is that, their fixation is pacified. Thus, the Thus-gone Ones are from the beginning devoid of arising and ceasing, yet the eye of wisdom is blinded by the cataract of ignorance, and for those with strong attachments who are devoid of the eye medicine of realizing emptiness, in order to illustrate the appearance of arising and ceasing, it is said as an example of the sound of a lute: Adorned with various precious ornaments, a body made of pleasing beryl, adorned with strings of vibrant colors, gazed upon by eyes of attachment, surrounded by young Gandharva girls holding bows with hands adorned with bracelets, for those with desire, it brings joy to the mind, the lute emits beautiful melodies, yet when the wise examine the body, strings, hands, and bow, from where do these come? It is neither from each individually nor from the collection, this sound does not abide anywhere, its essence is empty. When the cause of this is sought in this way, it is merely a name, a term, a designation. Just as the water of a mirage is never the cause of a lotus in the sky, with a false cause, one can never hope to produce a true result. However, in the presence of those with fixation, the designated conditions appear as existence and non-existence, and the sound of the lute also has arising and ceasing. Thus, the bodies of the Buddhas are also, when the dependent arising conditions are present, they appear to arise, and when those are absent, they appear to cease to those with fixation. When the roots of a flourishing tree are cut, the branches and leaves
