Meditate on the specific faults through the first two doors of suffering, and meditate on the general faults of samsara through the final door, measuring them against your own mindstream. Then, in order to engage in and refrain from virtue and vice, contemplate and consider how the ripened results of samsaric happiness and suffering arise from what kind of black and white karmic causes, and ascertain the unfailing cause and effect with the power of direct perception. By training the object-aspect in this way for a long time, aversion will arise, which is the aspect of wanting to separate from samsara. When that arises, renunciation will naturally arise, which is the aspect of wanting to attain liberation, without relying on training the object-aspect. This is the teaching of the three essentials of the path. This was composed by the greatly learned Gyal Khampa Geshe Losang Drakpa. Homage to Guru Manjushri! This is called "Questions on the Essentials of Virtue: A White Lotus of Supplication." Like a golden land soaked by cinnabar rain, the summit is like a sapphire mountain covered by dense blue clouds. On the red and yellow body, the five-crested hair is exquisitely beautiful. May the Manjushri Lama always protect and increase auspiciousness! The essence of the nectar-like instructions spoken by the Buddhas, I myself abide single-pointedly in the taste of its essence, and I also want to place others in it. Therefore, I offer this question to all practitioners. For those answers that are in accordance with the words of the Buddhas, please quickly and clearly bestow them upon me with reverence from the three doors of body, speech, and mind. For those answers that are not in accordance, please do not harbor jealousy or hatred towards me, but practice the meditation of severing afflictions. If you have not yet searched well without error, then you will deceive yourself and others, and there is a danger of falling. The reason I ask these questions is not out of wanting to boast of my own cleverness, belittle others, or crave profit, respect, and fame, but because Sakya Pandita, an emanation of Manjushri, said in the Treasury of Reasoning: "Even if you constantly strive to cultivate samadhi, you will stray from the path that pleases the Buddhas. People of the degenerate age should think well and rely on the wise." And there are also many teachings in the Three Vows, etc. Furthermore,

In both Tibet and China, there are endless errors in view, meditation, and conduct. Among them, if the view and meditation on emptiness are mistaken, one will be destroyed, as Nagarjuna said. In the Root Verses of the Middle Way, it says: "If emptiness is viewed wrongly, those of small intellect will destroy themselves. It is like grasping a snake wrongly, or a mantra being performed incorrectly." Furthermore, according to the words of many Tibetan and Chinese scholars, "It is extremely difficult to find a practice that is not mistaken in the first place." and so on, I have seen many. In that case, one should also generate diligence for the meditation that exhausts the first half of one's life. Furthermore, to those who write, I earnestly request with compassion, and ask the following questions: In general, what is the main point and ultimate purpose of all the eighty-four thousand teachings of the Buddha? If asked, the primary purpose is to liberate sentient beings from the great ocean of suffering in samsara. After being liberated from samsara, the second purpose is to not fall into the nirvana of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers. In short, it is to gradually transcend samsara and nirvana, and ultimately attain perfect Buddhahood, so how could there be any instructions that are not included in this? Therefore, the questions raised about the actual main practice and preliminaries are the introduction. Its meaning, if applied to one's own mindstream, is this: In a secluded place, sitting upright with the body straight, turning the mind inward, and thinking well, where am I, who has been experiencing such painful torment in this beginningless abyss of samsara, and this self-aware awareness has become like this. Now, in such a situation, from now on, one must definitely not be reborn. If one does not do so, the method of generating the feeling that my heart is rotten, like the feeling of kidney pain, one must first strive for, but that is very difficult. If this experience is not generated, then no matter how much the lama teaches and understands the profound method of liberation from samsara, it will still be like water on ice as before. For example, just as one does not want to drink water, one does not make the effort to drink. Its method of meditation is also, now one must definitely not be reborn in samsara, facing it with such determination.
