And, with mindfulness, vigilance, shame, and embarrassment, diligently tame the horse of the senses that runs on the wrong path, so that his mind, for whatever virtuous goal he desires, may be fully established as he wishes. Therefore, discipline is praised as the cause of samadhi. Pure discipline is free from the turbidity of defilements, and does not waver in the face of virtuous goals. In that, the truth of selflessness is clearly revealed, like the reflection of the moon in clear, still water. Thus, the essence of the path of the three trainings, the complete knowledge of the three baskets (Tripitaka), depends entirely on knowledge, therefore, rely on the wise and study the three baskets. The holy ones have said many times that the purpose of studying is to practice. Therefore, from what you know, do not delay, but put it into practice immediately. These are just a brief explanation of the reasons why discipline is the root of the path, so cherish them and make resolutions again and again. It is very good that you have established many monastic communities in that unbearable border area and are also teaching the Vinaya. If you do not prioritize taking vows and guarding them, and if you do not establish the practice of expiation, there is no way to obtain pure discipline. Now, there, recognize the faults and guard the vows well, and if you transgress the precepts due to the four causes of ignorance, etc., be sure to establish a practice of expiation to confess sins, and do not be indifferent to transgressions, but repent whenever they occur. If shame, embarrassment, mindfulness, and awareness arise, the discipline will become completely pure. In this regard, in general, do not treat the benefits that are said to arise from virtue and non-virtue as if you are puffing out your chest, and do not treat the faults that are said to arise as if you are threatening, but gain conviction from the bottom of your heart. In particular, you need to meditate extensively on the benefits and faults of keeping and not keeping the vows, so that you can gain a firm conviction. If you do not do so, you will keep the vows for the sake of pleasing others or seeking gain and honor, and that will not be to the point. The obstacle to accomplishing it as it is is to be preoccupied with the affairs of this life.

Moreover, it is also because one sees that one can stay in this life for a long time. The antidote to this is to have a deep recollection of death. Therefore, one must repeatedly meditate on death. In short, the infallibility of karma and its results is a characteristic of omniscience. Therefore, mindfulness, the "Hundred Deeds," the "Hundred Jataka Tales," the "Wise and Foolish Sutra," and the scriptural transmissions, etc., as well as many other sutras and treatises, should be read extensively, and one must firmly establish conviction in karma and its results. For the negative actions previously accumulated, one must definitely purify them with the four powers; for the doors through which new negative actions are committed, one must definitely close them off; for the positive actions previously performed, one must extensively expand them with great aspirations; and for the positive actions that have not yet arisen, one should not be content with just a little accomplishment, but should generate them from various avenues. No matter how one does these things, whether in reality or just in a similar way, it is crucial to do them while being embraced by bodhicitta. The view of emptiness, which the Buddhas have praised many times in the sutras and tantras, destroys all the targets of clinging to characteristics. Therefore, it abandons the extremes of existence and non-existence. Having deep faith in karma and its results, it becomes a companion in abandoning evil and practicing good, thereby abandoning the extremes of existence and annihilation. Most sentient beings either cling to the extreme of permanence, believing that emptiness is inherently established, or cling to the extreme of annihilation, believing that all conventional designations will be destroyed. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to realize, and even if one realizes it, very few become vessels for teaching. Therefore, if one has faith in this place, then one must accumulate and purify the causes for realizing it, make many aspirations, rely on a qualified spiritual friend who is proficient in this path, become familiar with the relevant treatises, and not be content with a little understanding, but use one's discriminating wisdom to conduct detailed analysis and research. In this way, if one meditates on the meaning of what has just been said and alternates between teaching and listening, then the certainty of understanding will greatly increase, and it will become an antidote to afflictions. Therefore, please do so. With one-pointed respect for the Sugata's teachings, possessing undiminished discerning ability, following in the footsteps of great beings, O intelligent Ngawang Drakpa, please follow my words, and may our actions and aspirations be the same in all lifetimes.
