Now it is necessary. It is not enough to just generate it, but also to maintain it continuously and steadily, and moreover, to increase it further and further. These are preliminary practices, so there is no need to force habit, nor is it necessary to always maintain them without decline; it is enough to complete them once in advance. Furthermore, thinking that these are yogas like husks and outer skins, feeling that it is okay to put them aside, and therefore not valuing them, wanting to directly become familiar with the main practice, this is completely not understanding the key point of the path. If one lacks the intention as mentioned before, especially the Bodhicitta as mentioned before, then the Dharma practiced by those who practice Dharma will become similar Dharma. Even if one practices emptiness, pure Samadhi, it cannot become Mahayana, because it has been said many times. Therefore, cultivating Bodhicitta at the beginning of the session and dedicating it with grand aspirations at the end of the session is a skillful method to transform the merit accumulated in the main practice of the session into a key point and to make it inexhaustible, so it cannot be done arbitrarily, but must be integrated with the lineage. Like this, cherish the generation of such a mind, and based on not declining, on this basis, practice the two stages of the secret mantra path. In general, no matter which vehicle one enters, one must base oneself on one's own pure precepts. In particular, when entering the secret mantra, the Bodhicitta mentioned before is the ultimate key to all paths of the Mahayana, so it is very important to keep it stable. Therefore, it is good if the vows and precepts of the empowerment obtained from a qualified virtuous friend have not been abandoned due to violations, and have not declined due to damage. Otherwise, after receiving the empowerment, restore the vows and precepts, purify the previous transgressions, clearly recognize the root and branch faults, and resolve not to commit them again in the future. Moreover, strive not to be stained by the root downfalls, and if there are remaining faults, recognize them and repent well. In my opinion, this must be regarded as the indispensable basis for practicing the two stages, and even if one does not practice the two stages, if one has received the empowerment, one must do so.

Therefore, one should generate great conviction in this. If one has received empowerment and one's vows and precepts are completely pure, even if one does not cultivate the two stages in this life, it is said that one will achieve excellence in seven or sixteen lifetimes, etc. If one pretends to cultivate the two stages but abandons the vows and precepts one has undertaken, it is said that one will fall into the lower realms and not achieve accomplishment. Therefore, if the basis for practicing secret mantra is a householder, one must abide by the five permanent precepts; if one is ordained, one must abide by two or three precepts and then practice. Therefore, for Vajra-holders, a bhikshu is the best, a novice is intermediate, and a householder is the worst. This is also based on the amount of precepts one keeps, not just on whether one has taken vows. Therefore, if one abides by the two precepts of individual liberation and the Bodhisattva, one will achieve mantra practice very quickly, as stated in 'That Which Appears'. That is, those who are ordained, if they keep the two precepts of individual liberation and the Bodhisattva, and then take the mantra precepts and practice, it is considered much faster than just keeping the mantra precepts themselves and practicing. Similarly, in practicing the path of the Paramita Vehicle, it is better to be ordained in the Vinaya and take the Bodhisattva precepts and practice than to just abide by the Bodhisattva precepts and practice. This is what is meant. Therefore, in many sutras, even for equal Bodhisattvas, the latter, the ordained one, is praised more than the householder. Regarding the classification of these, although there seem to be many who just talk about it, there seem to be very few who actually apply it to practice, so it is difficult to understand. Then, for those who are well-versed in the generation stage and desire the completion stage, this method is like the steps of a ladder spoken of by the perfect Buddha. Just as climbing a ladder requires relying on the lower steps, the generation and completion stages must be cultivated in order to progress. It is not permissible to arrange the order arbitrarily, or to say that it is okay to abandon the generation stage. Therefore, one should first cultivate the generation stage. Even so, there is no certainty that temporary unhappiness will be pacified and that desired siddhis will be achieved, but for the unsurpassed Bodhi
