Whatever else it may be, it will not be pacified. Therefore, through ascertaining both coming and going afterwards, the wisdom that individually discerns the meaning of selflessness is said to be the supreme gate of liberation. If it is said that the nature of reality is not the object of sound and conceptualization, for example, saying that the taste of brown sugar is like this, but just as the tongue tastes it, it cannot be expressed through language, just as the noble ones realize it in meditative equipoise, the words that express emptiness cannot express it, so it is good to say so. However, one cannot completely deny the object of sound and conceptualization. Otherwise, the statement that the thusness is realized in general through the combination of aggregates would be unreasonable, and it would also be unreasonable to explain to a student with understanding that this is the meaning of something that cannot be understood, because no matter how much you say, it cannot be understood. Also, the annihilationist emptiness like destruction and disintegration that you mentioned, as well as the experience of realizing appearance as emptiness, and the way of understanding dependent origination as illusion, and the idea of thinking that it is just a nominal designation, etc., the reasons why the former is inferior to the latter and the latter is better than the former, I have seen that you have arranged them properly and truthfully. As it is said in the letter of Jetsun Redawa, there are four views of emptiness. The first one is like that, but the later appearance does not necessarily have to be just the object of apprehension, because even without consciousness it appears, and due to the object, the subject appears, and due to the subject, the object appears. The term appearance applies to both of these, and the sign of appearance being without inherent existence, as well as understanding dependent origination as illusion, and understanding dependent origination as mere designation, both of these are the same in understanding all phenomena as without basis and root. If one understands appearance as without inherent existence, then how can one not abandon the clinging to substantiality? For those who say it is like illusion, experience, awareness, abandonment, and practice are all just illusion, what reason is there to consider it as true? If one thinks that those who say it is just like illusion have clinging to illusion, then those who think it is just a name also have clinging to name, it is the same. Therefore, the answer to the question of what the lama's view is: In general, the term appearance applies to both object and subject, but what

Due to the power of the intention to express, the general name enters a specific name, and there are many treatises and worldly rules. Therefore, the Lama said that when appearances appear like illusions, one realizes their lack of inherent existence from the very moment they appear. Even if the clinging to the reality of external objects ceases, one does not abandon the attachment to experience and awareness, which is not contradictory. The reason for saying that one realizes the lack of inherent existence of appearances is that the intention is focused on external objects. Even if one realizes the lack of inherent existence of external objects, it is not contradictory to not abandon the clinging to the reality of the inner mind. The third view is that both inner experience and awareness and outer appearances depend on causes and conditions, so they only appear conventionally like illusions, and one realizes that there is not even a little bit of inherent existence. In this regard, although there is no clinging to extremes, it is said that there is a meaning of Dharma that does not depend on dependent origination and conceptual terms, but is only held as an illusion. Any cognition that regards phenomena as illusions is the Svatantrika school of the path, who admit that they are established by their own characteristics in conventional terms, so although they refute inherent existence in the ultimate sense, they believe that there are self-characteristics that are not merely established by imputation in the conventional sense. If so, then according to their view, the meaning of speaking of illusions is that in the conventional sense, there is a meaning of Dharma that is not merely established by imputation. The Prasangikas do not accept that phenomena established by their own characteristics exist in both truths, so understanding them as mere names imputed by dependent origination is consistent with their view. Therefore, saying that even in the conventional sense, it is only appearance, and realizing that there is no other inherent existence besides that, does not mean that it is established by its own characteristics, but that there is no inherent existence established in the ultimate sense. Saying that there is no clinging to extremes, the clinging to extremes here also refers to the clinging to extremes of the common Madhyamaka school. According to the Prasangika view, there is still clinging to extremes to be refuted. If it is not so, then what better view could there be than the view of realizing the meaning of being free from all extremes? What view can one speak of? The understanding of phenomena appearing as if they were established by their own characteristics, but without such existence, like an illusion, and the realization that all appearances lack inherent existence, and the realization that they are merely dependent origination and imputation, for these, there is no way to establish the superiority or inferiority of views. The meaning of the Madhyamaka treatises, the basis and the path.
