If it is one's own side, the Bhikshu's precepts can be restored; if it is the other side, it is said to possess purity, possess three names, the body is that of a common person, and is different from myself, these four. What are the objects with which to slander? They are especially engaging in impure conduct and other actions that lead to defeat, and having none of the three roots, these two. The object to be understood is possessing five names, the body is that of a common person, and is different from myself, these three. The source of becoming a remainder by slandering the impure is, in the 'Differentiation', it is said: If one slanders an impure person, it will become eleven bases of downfall and six bases of non-downfall. The eleven are: For things that do not have the three bases of seeing, hearing, and doubting, transforming the perception to think they exist, these three; for things that have the three bases, forgetting and transforming the perception, these three, totaling six. After hearing, saying 'seeing' when not believing or believing, this is the second; after hearing, saying 'seeing' when doubting or not doubting, this is the fourth; when doubting, if doubting, saying 'seeing', this is the fifth. In the inquiry, it is also said: If a Bhikshu himself says he engaged in impure conduct, and the other three slander without a basis, it is said to be a remainder. What is said here refers to those who acknowledge names and views, belonging to the source of one's own side. This is specifically pointed out. Therefore, slandering those whose names and views belong to the other side is also a remainder. In the 'Differentiation', it is said: If announced, there is no downfall. For all cases of drawing on the face, there is also no downfall, if one thinks that just as I know, all the world also knows. Saying this, one must suppress the object of slander. What is said here refers to those who acknowledge names and views, belonging to the scope of one's own side. This is specifically pointed out. Therefore, slandering those whose names and views belong to the other side is also a remainder. Then, how is it known that it can be restored, is equal, and belongs to one's own side? In the Ṭīkā, it is said: Slandering a fallen one will also completely become a fault. From this, it can be seen that slandering both those who acknowledge and those who do not acknowledge is a very serious fault, but it will not lead to defeat. Saying this, one should investigate. Being in a fallen state is being separated from the conduct of a renunciate.

It is out of the intention of the middle, not because of anger, recklessness, or accident. The method of purifying transgressions is: if accused with a root downfall, a remainder, other transgressions, or misdeeds, it will become a remainder, a coarse offense, a misdeed, a minor offense. Doubting is also similar to having two minds. What is seen is not another basis, but hearing and doubt, and the other two cases are the same. Therefore, even if there is another basis, if the basis for disturbing is missing, it is a remainder. The eleven bases of previous transgressions are the source of the latter five cases here. Even if four or three cases occur, because there is no forgetting, saying it after transforming the consciousness is a remainder. The so-called "that," forgetting is the place where two kinds of knowledge decline, and accusation will become the source of the remainder, while the truth of the matter is used to prove these two. For example, when committing the first root downfall, if one says, "I saw it, I heard it," even if there is a basis for seeing, but there is no basis for hearing, it will become a remainder. Forgetting after seeing, and saying "I saw it" after transforming the consciousness, these two statements are the source of impurity. If one transforms the consciousness, even if there is the truth of the matter, it will become false; if one does not transform it, even if there is not, one speaks of it as true, so it will not become a remainder, because it is related to the consciousness of truth and falsehood, and not related to the matter. The slight amount that arises from discrimination is: those previously mentioned are understood in common, while the special thing is: this person especially did things that would lead to a root downfall. What is to be expressed is that other than the things that are clearly stated, others are not clear. That word is a word that stays on other things to be expressed, and accusing with that word is a remainder. Because there may also be correct situations in that, in order to clarify that point, it is said, "It is false." Relying on others refers to a part of the food. Being in accordance with what follows that refers to being in accordance with the part of others. Accusing without a basis, there, accusing in other ways than from what is clearly stated, is a word that does not clearly state the matter, doing a remainder is in accordance with the part of others, and can also be said to be a slight amount. This is from the Ṭīkā. The discriminator is: not in accordance with the part of others. The so-called "other" refers to Nirvana. What is not in accordance with that part is: the four dharmas that lead to a root downfall, so it is said. Two
