Regarding offerings and the like, even if the offering has been completed, it will not become abandonment because there is no perception of it being one's own. This is the meaning of the first sutra. Because it is given with intention, it will not become abandonment for the giver. This is considered the second meaning. Therefore, it is established that abandonment requires perception. Even if it is perceived that the offering has been given before learning to offer, but the giver has died. If both die, if blessed in the deceased's actions of the giver, even if stolen in between, it becomes stealing from the giver, becoming the owner of ungiven taking, and it is considered that in the deceased's actions, things change from one's own to one's own. If it reaches the place of offering, the offering is possessed, and if it does not reach, it seems that whoever initially accomplished that thing possesses it, and it should be investigated. Regarding possessing oneself, perceiving it as possessing, and doubting, both are fundamental offenses. Regarding not possessing oneself, perceiving it as possessing, and doubting, both are said to be misdeeds. This sutra, in reality, is applied to holding from the sutras and commentaries, but earlier people, through obtaining the meaning, applied it to the eighteen downfalls, namely the ten major offenses, intermediate offenses, minor offenses, and from the initial holding, placing, mixing, entering three, from the final downfall, all holdings are included. One's own large placing, and forgetting to wipe, and accumulating placing, etc., are five. Among them, regarding possessing oneself, perceiving it as such, and regarding possessing others, perceiving it as such, and regarding possessing oneself, perceiving it as belonging to others, and regarding possessing others, perceiving it as belonging to oneself, what will the four situations become? The first situation is a fundamental offense for everything. The second situation is that holding two, placing, a span high, a large cloth, forgetting to wipe, etc., six have no downfall. Regarding precious jewels, only, eleven will become misdeeds. The third situation is that the six are the same as before, belonging to precious jewels only, eleven belong to the misdeeds here. The fourth situation is that for everything, it is a misdeed here. This is the view. The wrong thinking here is that separation requires possessing oneself, and when knowing that others possess it, there is no abandonment downfall of accumulating and placing. If it is said that it is because there is nothing for others to abandon, then, if that is the case, letting a nun be released from bonds, and the abandonment of special individuals, will also become non-abandonment downfalls because there is no reason, and...

Before confession, it must be stated that the object has not been lost. For the latter, if someone else stores it for him, or if, being under the control of another, he uses it himself knowing it, there is no transgression. If it is like the former, then specifying it is meaningless. If it is like the latter, there will be a fault, because what could have been enjoyed becomes unenjoyable. It is said that it is like taking care of someone else's things. Generally, although not all relinquishment-offenses require relinquishing the object, it may be necessary for the kind of root-offenses that are summarized by "collecting." For example, in the case of jewels and storage, when someone else's things are not encroached upon and become one's own, and when there is nothing to be relinquished after eating, it is necessary to hold, as stated in the commentaries. Even when untying a bound fist, it is not necessarily necessary to be under the control of another. Regarding the question of whether it is a misdeed to ask for a seat that is under the control of another, it is said that this refers to the way it is made, and both of these need to be examined. If the object to be relinquished is one's own, then whether it is offered to the Sangha, an individual, or another, whether it is certain or uncertain, whether it can be delivered or not, it is separated from oneself. What is determined is what is placed. It itself is separated from oneself. Examining, is examining whether it is separated from another. Even if the bowl is not collected, through offering it will not only be separated, but also through conceptual thought, this is the meaning of the commentaries. There are four commonalities related to traces. The so-called offense of "one's own" refers to the object in any relinquishment-offense that requires "one's own" as a component. If one offers or conceptually thinks about it, not only will it be separated from "one's own," but the subsequent continuity will also be lost. For example, if one obtains a garment on a certain day, and if one offers or conceptually thinks about it on the fifth day, even if one obtains another garment on that noon, it will not be affected by the previous date, because the continuity has been lost. After losing it from oneself or another, someone asked, from the fifth day after obtaining the garment, if one's mind is disturbed, from where should these ten days be counted? The answer is, from the time one regains one's senses. Some people think that if it continues for ten days like being unconscious, then it needs to be counted by days. If that were the case, even if the lineage of precepts is different, it would need to be counted by days, just by being intoxicated.
