The prohibition of doing what should be done is a punishment, and all those should be punished with all punishments. The fifth is to abandon the reason for punishment, and when asking for forgiveness, forgiveness should be accepted, and forgiveness should not be accepted when it is not appropriate. If forgiveness is not requested, do not abandon it, but have a learned monk offer advice. Even if this is done, if forgiveness is not requested in any way, for a novice monk, give the upper robe, lower skirt, bowl, water filter, rosary, and common spoon, a total of five items. For those who wish to take full ordination or have already taken full ordination, give a sanghati and a cushion in addition to these, and then expel them from the residence. Even after expulsion, if forgiveness is requested, do not hesitate, but accept forgiveness. If someone who has been punished is taken as a retinue by another monk, a grave offense will be committed. Secondly, the precepts that are in accordance with this are threefold: the duties of the elder, the duties of the retinue, and the common duties. The first has two types: the common duties of the elder and the individual duties. The first is that the elder should teach the Dharma that is in accordance with the minds of those who belong to his retinue and who wish to hear the Dharma, and should maintain equanimity towards those who do not speak but are happy to contemplate properly. Instructions should be given regarding the places that are suitable and unsuitable for activities such as alms-gathering, and how to conduct activities such as walking. Assistance should be given through the distribution of offerings such as receiving scriptures, the acquisition of food, and the provision of medicine and care for the sick. Not only the elder, but all those who have a retinue should examine their respective retinues, and if they waste time meaninglessly, they should be punished. New renunciates should not always speak idle words, should not speak words that disturb the retinue, and should not speak words that contradict the Vinaya. Regarding conduct and so on, one should do as one has taught the retinue. The second has five types: going to the village, residing permanently, arriving suddenly, preparing to leave, and the duties of the elder during the summer retreat. The first is that when the Sangha goes to the village and so on, the elder should go in front, and if he is accompanied by some retinue, he should wait, and also observe the retinue inside and outside the houses, checking the upper and lower garments.

If the clothes are not sewn according to the regulations, you should inform them to make them beautiful. If they don't understand, let the bhikkhu sitting next to them inform them. If that still doesn't make them beautiful, then fix them yourself. When near a layperson's home, make all your attendants happy and don't be arrogant. Second, the rules of the monastery and nunnery should be made clear to the newcomers, and they should be encouraged to work hard. When a layperson comes to that place, have your attendants prepare food. If they don't prepare it, or if the layperson doesn't want food, then tell that layperson about the Dharma. Third, wherever you go, observe the number of your attendants and tell the resident bhikkhus about it for lodging. Fourth, you should investigate the direction of the place you are going, your travel companions, lodging, accommodation, and whether someone is left behind, and whether your companions will abandon them, and then go. Not long after leaving that place, you should immediately think about whether anyone has left anything behind. Make the newcomers happy and don't let them be arrogant. Use names and other designations to make all attendants aware. Fifth, the actions of the elder during the summer retreat are to have those who do not clean the temple and stupa during the summer clean them, and to encourage them to enjoy cleaning. Second, the actions of the attendants are that when going to villages and other places together, do not go in front of the elder. At that time, if the elder is delayed on the road, wait. If the elder does not come out of the residence, do not go far, wait. When delayed near the village, and when the attendants enter the village, if you see the elder coming, wait. At that time, if the patron invites you, instruct them to wait until the elder comes. After going to the layperson's home, even when taking water to wash your hands, if it is not too late, wait for the elder. If there is no time to wait, leave a seat for the elder at the table. Do not sit or stand in front of the elder. Do not speak until the elder has spoken. Do what the elder says. Do not interrupt while the elder is speaking. If they speak something that is not in accordance with the Dharma, refute it. Rejoice in those who speak the Dharma.
