How to handle matters such as shaving: It is to clean the area where hair, etc., has been shaved, and to discard the hair, etc., in a secluded place. The second is the method of bathing: After shaving the hair and beard, one should take a full bath including the limbs, and should not bathe naked. If there is no bath towel, one should also cover the lower body with leaves, etc., in a secluded place to bathe, and one should not use a double-layered bath towel. Bathing in the temple and pouring dirty water should be done in the designated place. After bathing, one should not wear the Dharma robe until the water on the body is dry. For this purpose, one should prepare a body-wiping cloth. If not, one should squat for a while and wipe with a bath towel. After bathing, one should wash the feet, and in the temple, one should wash at the Waka (Tibetan transliteration). The rules regarding bathing and washing feet, etc., are all permissions that are allowed. The third is to handle other bodily affairs: Other parts of the body besides the soles of the feet should not be rubbed with sharp tiles, etc. One should not climb ladders, etc., without tying the end of the waistband, and one should not do so at other times. When yawning, etc., one should not open the mouth without covering it. Using the bathroom is a permission that is allowed. If the users use the bathroom, then the rules regarding how to build the bathroom and how to use it, etc., must be followed. At the same time, all utensils must be hidden by placing them in a secluded place, and cleaning work such as washing must be done. One should not do any cleaning work without a top and a dust cover, and one should not let people with unstable faith see the cleaning of the body. These are not only to be done in the bathroom, but all renunciates must abide by them in all places. The second is how to handle utensils, including the two matters of the bowl and the Dharma robe. The first matter is the bowl, including that the bowl is indispensable (with special circumstances), the method of use, the place of placement, the method of respect, generating reverence, and how to repair it, etc., are six aspects. The first point is that the bowl must be carried during the summer, and it is also needed at other times, but only the summer is mentioned because the summer mostly relies on patrons, for alms.

In order to dispel the doubt of "Is it okay to not have a bowl because I'm not in a hurry?" One should not wander without a bowl, and when wandering in dangerous situations, one should carry a small bowl. Second, the method of using it: Do not pour water discarded from other containers into the bowl, do not pour water used for washing hands and face, and do not use it to discard dirty things such as rags and eaten fruit peels. Use it appropriately. Do not put the bowl into a container, take it out, or dry it while standing. Do not let careless novices wipe it, do not wipe it with sandy ground or heavy objects, do not put it in the container when it is wet, and do not make it too dry. Third, the place to put it: Do not put it on stones, unclean places, or anywhere, either permanently or temporarily. When villagers build monasteries and other buildings for the purpose of placing bowls, they can build holes for placing bowls, but do not create new ones. Monastics should make bowl stands with lids that are tightly closed, made of willow branches or thin ropes, and coated with heavy objects or mud. Do not put the bowl stand on the ground, but hang it on a tree. Fourth, the method of respect: Do not send the bowl stand with a lid to other places. When sending it, put it in a container such as felt and send it. Even when carrying the container, do not send it by hand, but tie it with a rope under the left armpit. Bowls, medicines, patches, and other items should be placed in separate containers, and these containers should be carried. The ropes of these containers should not be tied to the same length, and the ropes should not be too thin. In order to prevent the ropes from fraying, felt should be sewn in the middle, and a protective amulet should be sewn to fix the felt in place. Fifth, the method of generating respect: Cherish the bowl as you would your eyes. Sixth, the method of repairing: There are two methods: repairing and burning. The first is: Repair the bowl in a secluded place. For this purpose, the Sangha should have blacksmith's tools. To repair holes in iron bowls, use brown sugar, camphor shavings, beeswax, and black and white lead.
