It is to take and receive correctly. Among them, the body that enjoys wealth, the relatives who are loving and pleasing with whom one enjoys, the servants and so on who are accomplished by whom are many, and the food and so on that are used for what are many, these four are great in enjoyment. Because of what is used, the livelihood is great, adding this is five. With the power of command, exercising power over them as desired, is great power. Some commentators explain power and wealth separately. The second difficulty is: even if one is on the verge of death, one would not even slightly violate the vows one has taken, let alone abandon them. The third difficulty is: after taking the vows, for as long as one lives, in all activities such as walking, staying, sitting, and contemplating, one has five kinds of mindfulness and excellent mindfulness and wisdom, so that even the slightest mistake in discipline will not occur, let alone a serious one. Other commentators explain it as three difficulties: the difficulty of taking vows initially, the difficulty of protecting them in the middle, and the difficulty of completing them in the end. However, Yonten Ö (a commentator's name) divides it into two: the difficulty of taking vows and the difficulty of protecting them, and explains the latter two as the difficulty of protecting them, which is better. From the perspective of obstacles, the difficulty of protecting is to protect without violating even when faced with life-threatening situations; from the perspective of what is learned and the time, the difficulty of protecting is to protect without being tainted by even the slightest sin until death. Therefore, even if we cannot actually practice these three now, we should make them the object of our aspirations, and by training our minds, we will become like that in other lives. Secondly, the discipline from all aspects is: the discipline that is properly taken from the basis is accomplished through present practice, that is, the three disciplines are properly taken. The discipline of nature is: not dependent on intention, action, and aspiration, that is, the mind stream that is awakened in ability, has the characteristics of paramitas, and abides in the lineage, is only the goodness of nature, so the actions of body and speech are completely pure. The discipline of habituation is: continuously entering from a long time ago, that is, for the three disciplines, the power of the cause generated by habituation in previous lives, based on this, one is displeased and disgusted with doing evil in all times and places, and one is happy and desires to do good in all times and places.

The discipline endowed with skillful means is: relying on the four means of gathering others to subdue them, causing sentient beings to engage in virtuous actions of body and speech. The four means of gathering are: generosity, which gathers with material things; loving speech, which teaches those who have been gathered the places of what to take and what to abandon; beneficial conduct, which causes the meaning of what has been spoken to be accomplished; and acting in accordance with the meaning, abiding in the same way as others are engaged in accomplishment. Thus, it becomes the door to entering all disciplines, therefore it is the door of all. Third, the discipline of a great person is fivefold: that is, one's self also possesses discipline, causing others who abide in ordinariness to take discipline, pacifying the tormented minds of those who hate discipline by praising its virtues, rejoicing and being without jealousy when seeing others properly engaged in the Dharma, and correcting faults according to the Dharma when they occur. These five are the discipline of a great person because they possess the noble work of abandoning harm to others and accomplishing all benefits without exception, that is, the first and the last accomplish one's own benefit, and the remaining three accomplish the benefit of others. Fourth, the discipline of all aspects is thirteenfold, that is, six aspects and seven aspects. The first of the six aspects, the vast one, is because the basis of the precepts is taken in a vast manner, the place is perfected, and because it is dedicated to great enlightenment, the fruit is perfected. The one without fault is: abandoning the extreme of sensual enjoyment, being separated from the happiness of afflictions. The one in accordance with the place of great joy is: abandoning the extreme of causing fatigue and weariness, being separated from meaningless suffering. The one who always acts is: taking the precepts and not abandoning them, practicing as long as one lives, therefore abandoning the interruption of the precepts. The stable one is: not looking at gain and honor, therefore these two and one's own path are firmly determined, therefore being able to endure the accusations of others and resisting what should be abandoned, therefore not being overcome or robbed by the three unfavorable factors, namely afflictions, near afflictions, and so on. The commentaries say that one does not take vows in the place of non-Buddhists after giving up one's own precepts, therefore one is not overcome by the accusations of others, but since not abandoning the precepts has already been explained before, this is not its meaning. The ornament of discipline is explained in the Hearer's Ground.
