It is called "Arisen from Karma." Thus, it is said very clearly that for minor transgressions, just like other remedial offenses, if that is permissible, then the reasoning is very similar for intermediate downfalls as well. Because the penalty arising from a downfall due to intention does not necessarily depend on the remedy for the downfall, this is the general principle of remedying downfalls. And in the Bodhisattva Grounds, it says: Although there is no word like "my mind" in reality, if one confesses in front of someone, it is like purification, and if that person is not there, then it is said that it is purified by restraining one's own mind, because it is meaningful. Some say that offenses with afflictions must be confessed to someone if there is an object, while offenses without afflictions can be purified by restraining the mind even if there is an object, which is unreasonable, because the Bodhisattva Grounds say so without distinction. Therefore, minor and intermediate transgressions, and the forty-five offenses, cannot be purified merely by restraining the mind if there is an object, so one should do as stated in the scriptures. For offenses other than these, it is very good to confess to one person, as it is easy to generate shame and embarrassment, but if that is not successful, then contemplate the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and then confess, as it says in the chapter on ethics: I also fully know my own mistakes and regard them as faults, and having known and seen them as faults, I will also abandon them. Mistakes should also be confessed to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and to those who are in accordance with the Dharma. And in the seventeenth chapter of the Bodhisattva Grounds, it also says: Furthermore, with a mind possessing the desire for virtuous training, confess individually to all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, in all ten directions, all the mistakes and all the offenses that have occurred in the past and present, and also cause others to correctly accept it. Thus, by continuously confessing each mistake, one will be completely liberated from all karmic obscurations with little effort. Because it is said so. In the Compendium of Trainings, there is the method of confessing to Akashagarbha in a dream, and in particular, the heavy and light downfalls of Bodhisattvas should be confessed, which is said in the Sutra Requested by the Noble Near One, and then it is said that remedies should be performed as stated there. That is, in the Compendium of Trainings, it says: It is also taught in the Sutra Requested by the Near One: Shariputra, the great transgressions of Bodhisattvas and

That is, there are two kinds of complete transgressions. What are the two? That is, having hatred and having ignorance. In the same way, combine, Shariputra, for him, the Bodhisattva honestly, the initial transgressions, the heavier ones from the ten categories, must be confessed. Those with transgressions, the heavier ones from the five categories, must be confessed. Shariputra, holding from a woman's hand and looking with the eyes and also harmful thoughts are transgressions, and must be confessed to one or two people. The Bodhisattva has the transgression of the five inexpiable sins and the transgression arising from a woman and the transgression arising from a hand and the transgression arising from a child and the transgression arising from a stupa and the transgression arising from the Sangha, and, other transgressions from that are to be confessed heavily day and night alone to the thirty-five Buddhas, the Bhagavat, according to the new translation. Regarding this, in the translation of that very sutra, it says: The first heavy offense is to be confessed honestly to the ten assemblies, which is good, so the first of the two heavy offenses, having hatred, is to be confessed to the ten objects. Those with heavy offenses should be confessed to the five categories, and that should be corrected, that is, the second heavy offense, having ignorance, must be done. Regarding this, the sutra says: The heavy offense of holding from a woman's hand is to be confessed to the five assemblies, so it appears. In the Compendium of Trainings, it says that that offense should be confessed to one or two people, and the essence of that very sutra and those arising from attachment are said to be minor offenses, which is inconsistent, so the translation is incorrect. Holding from a woman's hand and the other three should be confessed to one or two people, which is said to be heavy in the old translation, but said to be light in the new translation, is it good? In the current sutra, there is no harmful thought, but it is said in the Compendium of Trainings, so it is clear that there is a lack in the sutra. It is not contradictory that the offenses of having hatred are said to be heavy and harmful thoughts are said to be light, because it is only thinking of harming without disturbing the continuum. The heavy transgressions of the uninterrupted and so on are said to be purified day and night by the confession of transgressions, which seems to refer to the fact that the ripening is not eliminated by doing the ritual of expelling three times for a person.
