To subdue by the method of not seeking, and to protect the internal rules of the Sangha, these two. From the door of the place: knowing that the retinue is endowed with great merit, or that oneself is able to seek Dharma robes, etc., and that the instructions and subsequent teachings have already done their work, and that one was previously a heretic who came to steal the Dharma, and that he also has no share in being subdued, these three. The way of gathering with Dharma and wealth has already been explained extensively. To act perversely in accordance with what is agreeable is: "Do not allow agreement with the minds of others." That is, if one does not agree with the minds of others, then one becomes either afflicted or not, as explained immediately before. Even if one does not agree, there is no fault from the door of the basis: being sick and unable to endure, this one. From the door of need: the desire of others is not suitable, that is, it becomes harmful to them again, or it harms oneself, and even if the desire is suitable, it is not suitable and not desired for many other Dharmas, that is, protecting the mind of displeasure towards them, protecting the internal rules of the Sangha, and defeating the heretics, and wanting to subdue by that method, these five. This has also been explained extensively. To act perversely towards those with qualities is: "Do not speak of praising qualities." That is, not speaking of the true qualities of others, as mentioned before, such as praise of faith, etc., and not giving "Well done!" to those who speak well, then one becomes either afflicted or not with one or three minds, as before. Even if one does not speak, there is no fault from the door of the basis: being sick and unable to speak, and staying with the words of others finished and finished, these two. From the door of the place: because one's own desire is small by nature, if one speaks of qualities, one is displeased, knowing this, this one. From the door of what is to be said: becoming like an appearance of qualities and good speech, this one. From the door of need: wanting to subdue by the method of not speaking, and protecting the internal rules of the Sangha, and if one speaks, fearing that it will become all afflictions and pride and arrogance and harm, for the sake of removing that, and defeating the heretics, these four. There are two who do not defeat, among them, not employing those who practice non-Dharma, that is, "Do not defeat when the conditions are suitable," meaning:

For those who should be reproached, punished, or expelled through afflictions, if they are not reproached in an afflicted manner, or even if they are reproached, they are not punished, or even if they are punished, they are not expelled, then due to afflictions, the other two minds, and negligence, this is a non-afflicted fault. Even if it is not done, there is no fault from the perspective of the basis: abiding in time, this is one. From the perspective of the place: those who are not suitable for conversation, those who are discontented and always feel pain, that is, those who cannot be tamed, and those who are very ashamed and possess a sense of propriety, quickly conforming to what is quick, this is two. From the perspective of need: if reproach, etc., is done, seeing that fighting, exposing secrets, arguing, and quarreling will occur, in order to prevent these from happening, and seeing that the Sangha will split and separate, in order to prevent this, this is two. The four, fighting, etc., the first is general, and the remaining three are bad arguments, arguing with hands, and arguing in terms of intelligence, this is what Grolungpa said. Not controlling opposition to the Dharma, etc., is: not performing miracles, sins, etc. That is, if one possesses miracles and various powers, causing fear to those who should be feared, and causing faith to those who should be convinced, even if one abides in the Dharma, if one does not possess vows, one will not accept offerings of faith, in order to make them abandon offerings of faith, if one does not cause fear and faith through miracles, then that is a non-afflicted fault. In some commentaries on the "Twenty Sections of Vows," it is said that this last fault is afflicted, which seems to be a textual error. If one is overly attached to miracles, saying they are spells or drug mixtures, a heretic, even if it is not indicated, there is no fault. These twelve faults, the new explanation says, are deviations from the respective occasions of benefiting sentient beings. Having compassion and for the sake of love, and having a virtuous mind, there is no fault. These two lines mean that, from the perspective of the establishment and negation previously indicated, for those precepts, having compassion for sentient beings, and having love for sentient beings, that is, wanting to benefit and tame them, even if it is done, there is no fault. And the meaning of the word "and" is: the mind is extremely afflicted, and threatened by painful feelings, for sleep and intoxication, etc., even if they occur, there is no fault.
