If one does not attend and respect, then those with afflictions and those with other minds are not considered to have afflictions. Even if one does not do it, there is no fault from the perspective of the basis in the following situations: being ill, i.e., being unable to do it, and being able to do it but entrusting it to someone who is in accordance with the patient's mind, and being extremely dull in intelligence, unable to teach the Dharma well, unable to comprehend well, and unable to focus the mind on the object of focus, and having previously promised others, these are the four situations. From the perspective of the object, they are: the patient has protectors and reliance, one is able to take care of oneself, and having been ill for a long time, one is only slightly better, these are the three situations. From the perspective of need, it is: in order to protect against becoming an obstacle to striving for great virtue, this is one situation. Not eliminating general suffering is: not doing the work of eliminating suffering. This is saying that the circumstances of whether or not one has the downfall of afflictions are similar to those of a patient, and the manner of eliminating the suffering to be eliminated is as previously stated. Not eliminating the cause of suffering is: not showing the reasons to those who are heedless. This is saying that if one sees sentient beings who have entered into things of this life and future lives without proper attention, if one has two minds, if one does not show them the faultless reasons and the proper manner of how to be in accordance, then those with afflictions and those with other minds are not considered to have afflictions. Even if one does not show them, there is no fault from the perspective of the basis in the following situations: one does not know how to show them oneself, i.e., one is unable to do it, and entrusting it to others who are able to show them, these are the two situations. From the perspective of the object, they are: that person is able to tame himself, and is taken care of by a spiritual friend, and one always has a distressed mind, and because of a bad mood, one misunderstands, and one likes to show reasons but is not respectful, therefore becoming unruly, these are the four situations. From the perspective of need, it is: wanting to tame by the method of not showing, this is one situation. This should also be understood in detail as previously stated. In relation to the specific object to be benefited, there are two: not giving benefit and not punishing. The first has six. The first is to reciprocate in a reversed manner to those who have given benefit: not giving benefit in return for what has been done. This is saying that for those sentient beings who give benefit, because one does not want to repay the benefit, one does not repay the kindness, and one does not remember or think about the benefit given, so one does not perceive what has been done, because the distressed mind is greater than that, or if one is unable to do so, it is equal, or even not giving a small corresponding benefit in return.

If not done, then with both afflictions and other minds, it is a fault of non-affliction. Even if not done, but from the perspective of the basis, there is no fault: striving to give help, but being unable and incapable, this is one. From the perspective of need: subduing with the method of not giving help, this is one. From the perspective of the object: that person does not want to receive help, this is one. To act wrongly towards unhappiness is: not eliminating the sorrows of others. This means that when others experience sorrow from being separated from relatives and possessions, if one does not eliminate it with a distressed mind, then with both afflictions and other minds, it is a fault of non-affliction. Not incurring a downfall is similar to not doing the necessary help, and the classification of sorrows and the methods of eliminating them have already been explained in detail before. To act wrongly towards stinginess is: not giving to those who desire wealth. This means that when beggars who desire food and drink, etc., i.e., those who beg in accordance with reason and dharma, if one does not give those resources with two minds, then with both afflictions and other minds, and with negligence, it is a fault of non-affliction. Even if not given, but from the perspective of the basis, there is no fault: one does not have those possessions oneself, this is one. From the perspective of the object: it is not suitable to cause harm in this life or the next, and items that are not suitable for that beggar, these are two. From the perspective of need: wanting to subdue with the method of not giving, and protecting against harming the king if given to that person, and protecting the internal discipline of the Sangha, these are three. To act wrongly towards one's retinue is: not benefiting the retinue. This means that for the assembled retinue, not instructing with a distressed mind, nor following up with teachings, and for those who are impoverished, not seeking clothes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine for illness, and other resources from Brahmins and lay devotees in accordance with the Dharma, if with both afflictions and other minds, and with negligence, one does not instruct, nor follow up with teachings, and does not seek, it is a fault of non-affliction. Even if those are not done, but from the perspective of the basis, there is no fault: being sick and unable to endure, and entrusting the ability to others, these are two. From the perspective of need: not giving instructions, etc.
