These are the misdeeds arising from afflictions. If asked, what is heard that leads to slander? It is hearing from those scriptures the profound meaning, or arising from the great miraculous power of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the teachings that the realm of ordinary beings is not profound, and the realm of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is not extremely profound. Having heard this, one does not believe or rejoice and thus slanders. The statement "arising from their meaning or miraculous power" indicates that slandering either the profound or the vast aspect is shown as a misdeed. There are four ways of slandering: saying that these objects of expression are inferior or not the basis of wisdom, therefore they are meaningless; the means of expression are inferior or not the basis of merit, therefore they are not in accordance with Dharma; the author is inferior, therefore they are not spoken by the Tathagata; therefore, they cannot bring benefit and happiness to sentient beings, thus speaking of all or each individually. The cause of slander is: one's own improper attention or following the words of others. The way to protect one's mind from abandoning the Dharma is: having heard the profound and extremely profound teachings, if the mind does not rejoice, the Bodhisattva should with faith and unwavering mind think thus: I have become blind, without the eye of undefiled wisdom, I only follow the eye of the Tathagata, the Tathagata speaks for other purposes, abandoning that Dharma is not what I should do. Thus, one should train properly. The Bodhisattva thus regards himself as ignorant, while the Tathagata has no obscuration in those Dharmas, seeing them as they are, thus one enters as it is. Even if faith has not arisen, if one does not slander, there is no fault. The Ornament of the Sutras also says: "The nature of the mind's fault is fierce, it does not believe even in an unreasonable form, what need to speak of a Dharma that causes doubt? Therefore, leaving it in equanimity is without fault." Also, the Garland of Jewels says: "The Tathagata's intended words, are not easy to understand, therefore, speaking of one vehicle and three vehicles, protect yourself with equanimity, with equanimity no sin arises, with hatred sin arises, no merit arises." As it is said, it is difficult for a beginner to gain faith that is in accordance with one's own mind in everything,

If one cannot believe, but remains neutral, there is no fault. The reversed clinging to the result is: Praising oneself and disparaging others. That is, if one praises oneself and disparages others with a greedy and angry mind, it is the fault of affliction. The greedy mind is explained in the New Commentary and Samudra as an arrogant or conceited mind, which is pride. Jinasutra explains it as a mind that cherishes itself, which means the same thing. Therefore, it is very different from the case of defeat. Even if one praises oneself and disparages others, but for a necessary purpose, there is no fault in the following situations: in order to make the Dharma abide, when one wants to overwhelm the non-Buddhists, and when one wants to subdue others by that method, and in order to make the non-believers generate faith, and in order to make the believers increase their faith, there are three situations. There are two types of decline from the cause of wisdom, one of which is not engaging in listening: not going for the sake of the Dharma. That is, if one does not go to proclaim and explain the Dharma to others, and to establish the debate of the Dharma, because one has pride and two other minds, it is the fault of affliction. If one does not go because of two other minds, it is the fault of non-affliction. Even if one does not go, but from the point of view of the basis, there is no fault in the following situations: not feeling the proclamation of the Dharma, etc., and being sick and unable to, and being afraid of preaching in a reversed way, and knowing that the words of that Dharma have been heard, held, and understood many times, and being a person of much learning, holding learning, accumulating learning, and constantly abiding in the object of focus and practicing samadhi, and being very dull in wisdom and difficult to accept, hold, and abide in the object of focus, there are seven situations. The three, such as much learning, are different names for hearing, thinking, and completion. The three, such as accepting, are the three of hearing, thinking, and meditating. From the necessary point of view, it is: protecting the mind of one's own Dharma-speaking lama from being displeased, which is one situation. The reversed clinging to the object of hearing is: To revile and disrespect him, that is, to deliberately despise the Dharma-speaking person, that is, not to generate the thought of a virtuous friend and teacher from the heart, and not to show respect with the body, but to ridicule with slander, to insult with harsh words, and to be particularly picky about the merits and demerits of words, therefore
