It does not seem appropriate that the commentaries explain that the fault is to be content with samadhi. Even if samadhi arises, the obstacles to its continuation and development are the four afflictions: those who crave flavors, those with great pride, those with great ignorance, and those with great views. The new commentary explains that these three faults are, in order, the samadhi of guarding the Pratimoksha vows, not accepting afflictions through the samadhi of not thinking evil thoughts and accumulating virtues, and falling away from not accepting craving flavors through the samadhi of accumulating virtues. There are two contradictions to wisdom: related to inferior objects and related to superior objects. The first has four points, abandoning the Lesser Vehicle is: abandoning the Hearer Vehicle. It means that Bodhisattvas do not listen to teachings related to the Hearer Vehicle, do not guard words and meanings, do not diligently study, and think that there is no need to do these things. If they think this way themselves and tell others this way, it is the fault of affliction. This refers to the fact that the places of hearing the Hearer Vehicle, etc., are necessary for the Lesser Vehicle, but not necessary for Bodhisattvas. Therefore, it is not completely abandoning the Hearer Vehicle, and it is also very different from the root downfall that leads to abandoning the Pratimoksha vows. The reason why such a situation becomes a fault is that Bodhisattvas also need to be diligent in the treatises of non-Buddhists, let alone the words of the Buddha? This precept is to prevent those who have little knowledge of the Dharma from thinking that Mahayana practitioners do not need to study the Pratimoksha vows, etc., and thus accumulate a great abyss of karma that leads to poverty of the Dharma. This is a supreme instruction. If a certain Mahayana practitioner completely prevents the desire to accept the Hearer Vehicle, in order to want to accept the Mahayana, then from the point of view of the basis, there is no downfall. The fault of completely striving for this is: striving for this even though one has one's own duty. It means that even though there are things that should be strived for in the Bodhisattva Pitaka, one completely abandons everything and only strives for the Hearer Pitaka, which is affliction. Therefore, one must not abandon the diligence in the Mahayana, and at the same time one must study the treatises of the Lesser Vehicle. Non-Buddhists

To be wholeheartedly devoted to the scriptures of other sects is called "diligence in non-Buddhist scriptures." That is to say, if one could be diligent in the words of the Buddha, but does not do so, and instead is diligent in the scriptures of non-Buddhist sects, not being diligent in one's own scriptures, but being diligent in those, this is the fault of affliction. The so-called "non-Buddhist scriptures" are explained by Samudra as the logic and phonology of non-Buddhists. To be diligent in the former requires the Bodhisattva Pitaka, while to be diligent in the latter, the words of the Buddha alone are sufficient. From the perspective of the basis, if one possesses the qualities of being very easy to understand, easy to memorize, able to remember for a long time, able to contemplate the meaning, able to understand the meaning, able to understand the Buddha's teachings through reason, and possessing unchanging wisdom, and is diligent in the Buddha's teachings at twice the speed of non-Buddhist scriptures, like a single day, then there is no fault in being diligent in non-Buddhist scriptures. Among these, easy to understand means being able to remember even in a short time, contemplating the meaning means having a sharp mind, being able to understand the meaning means having clear wisdom, and understanding the teachings through reason means having great innate wisdom, which is explained by Jinasutra. Easy to memorize means being able to learn quickly. The fault of being happy to be diligent in non-Buddhist scriptures is: "Even if diligent, one is happy in it." That is to say, without contradicting the previously mentioned manner, even if one is proficient in the scriptures of non-Buddhist sects, one should do so as if relying on bitter medicine. If one does not do so, but instead does so first in an obviously joyful manner, then clings to the joy in the middle, and finally feels satisfied, this is the fault of affliction. Therefore, one must enter unwillingly, because of necessity. In this way, among the four faults, the first is: the fault arising from abandoning wrong views at the time of accumulating merit; the second and third are explained in the new commentary as faults arising from combining with hearing and thinking in accumulating merit, while the fourth is not clear. There are three things related to the supreme object, the first of which is abandoning the object of wisdom, which is abandoning the Great Vehicle. That is to say, slandering the Bodhisattva Pitaka.
